Although he seemed enthusiastic and eager to teach, he was by far the worst professor I've had. He asks for participation, but only to twist comments into what he accepts. His biased focus on race and class wouldn't be bad, if he had any insight or new information to offer on the subjects, but he doesn't. His lectures aren't focused or coherent.

Worst professor I've had at Duke. He's obsessed with making everything an issue of class or race, and won't listen to alternative perspectives. He often uses ad-hominem attacks on students who disagree with him, referring to them as "social darwinists" in one case. He certainly is passionate about history, but his passions result in a terribleclass

This guy really knows what he's talking about and is so enthusiastic about teaching students, in a very infectious way. I loved learning from him and now - two years later - we're still excited to see each other; he's even been eager to help out with my continued engagement with history :)

Professor Wood is a great professor. While my class, Native American History, wasn't always the most exciting content-wise, Prof Wood was exceptionally knowledgable and friendly. He really cares about students at Duke in general, and I always see him in the Marketplace meeting with students.

Prof. Wood is a great teacher and one of the main reasons why I enjoy history. He is eager to foster debate and truly cherishes spending time with his students. If you're nice he'll even treat you to dinner at his house!
