Dr. Metres is probably one of the best professors at JCU. He genuinely cares about his students and is passionate about the course material and subject. However, because of this he expects a lot from students. Get ready to write a lot and be graded harshly but trust me, its worth it.

This class is great!!! Metres is the man. Everything that you learn in the class is interesting. Guy does not know how to dress but he's super funny either way. Cares about his students and wants you to become a better writer.

L-o-v-e-d the class, Metres is a great teacher. Readings were all interesting, tests & papers graded fairly, lectures were thought provoking! Class discussions helped me learn and understand material. At first he comes off kinda strict and intimidating but by the last week he was singing t-swift to us on his guitar. Would love to take him again!!

I had him for Irish Film and Literature. I really enjoyed the class, because it was a lot of discussion-based activities and Phil is very open to everyone's opinions and throughout the entire semester, never really challenged anyone. Very easy-going and funny. Swears a lot, but overall a good guy. I'd recommend!

You won't get an A in his class, he tells you that on the first day, but it wasn't that difficult to get an A- in his class. His class is great for anyone starting out in their writing careers, or if your going through a rough time in your life, THIS IS THE CLASS to express it in. Lots of papers/some reading/workshops/final portfolio.

Metres is a really good guy who tries to get to know students individually. Classes aren't terribly boring, and if you need a writing intensive, this is the way to go. Homework is steady but reasonable. No final, and he played guitar on the last day of class. Nice guy, take him.

Metres is great for Creative Writing. I had almost zero interest in reading (let alone writing) poetry, and he managed to make it all worthwhile. The first day of class he says if you can't handle possibly getting a B in the class to drop. It would be a shame for anyone not to take his course for that reason, though.

I love Dr.Metres!!! Definitely take him for creative writing - he definitely takes the time to get to know everyone and their writing style. The portfolio is alot of work, but there is little reading throughout the semester. Lots of workshops

okay he's a nice guy i'll give him that. but this class is ridiculous!! he starts class by talking about his kids which has nothing to do with class. then his test are so hard because he never covers everything in class. and he focus too much on poetry cause he writes it..i wouldn't take him again
