I absolutely love this professor. I've taken an honors course in bio ethics with him and he was not only intelligent and insightful, but very very funny. He always listened, always had advice if you needed it, and really facilitated intelligent conversation. I would retake this class several times if I could. Really enjoyed my semester bc of him.

Took PH 70300 - BIOSTATISTICS AND EPIDEMIOLOGY II with P.A. in 2005 and he taught us much about the history of epi and how to use what we learned in biostats and apply it to epidemiology. Phil Alcabes is a class act and graduate students will be lucky to have exposure to him.

I took Dr. Alcabe's class back in 2003. He was amazing! I still remember the material learned in his class, and being a professor myself, I teach my students the concepts learned from Dr. Alcabes. He was very fair. My grade was well deserved.

Professor Alcabes is an amazing professor. Don't be afraid to voice your opinion and be creative, the more participation the better. This subject was very interesting and really opens up your mind. There were papers due every week on readings;that were all interesting. I definitely recommend taking this class and professor.

Probably the best professor I've had at Hunter. He is brilliant, but also a great teacher. He goes slow with challenging material and engages the class. His tests are straightforward and practically identical to the practice quizzes. Loved his class!

Prof Alcabes is by far one of the best educators i have ever encountered. He cares about challenging you and forcing you to think. He wants you to succeed. I highly urge everyone to take a class with him. He is nice, and his humor will keep the class fun! You will never fall asleep and will always be engaged in what hes saying.

He is very knowledgeable and many of his lectures are quite interesting. Yet he can be very rude and condescending and has trouble dealing with students one on one. Although he is knowledgeable, he is lacking intellectually because his thinking is very rigid and conventional.

This guy is BRILLIANT. Obviously some people are going to "get" him and others aren't. I did, and I got an A+, so just go in expecting to be challanged. He was very helpful at office hours, but not so much when asking him questions during class. You will learn A LOT if you pay attention in lectures.

He is a tough teacher but very fair. Will help you if you ask questions and try to understand the material. Not a class you can slack off in. Can get impatient sometimes. A lot of work, but you will walk out the class having learned a lot. Dont need to buy the textbook, just take notes in class and review his lecture notes. Study and you'll do fine

People have said that if you are smart he'll respect you. Not entirely true. If you're an attractive woman he'll be inappropriate, talk about his sex life, and be extra nice with grading. Not attractive? Not smart? You're out of luck, my friend.
