Do not take this professor. He is strict and doesn't allow technology. His 3 tests are overly difficult and he seems to find enjoyment in causing freshmen stress. If you get ready to leave early, expect to be humiliated. Expect to take LOTS of notes. He doesn't give study guides and his lectures are vague. Book is not required but helps.

Dr. Koerper is a brilliant and nice man, but very old school in his teachings, lectures and ways. He uses absolutely NO technology in the classroom, teaches from handouts that were written by him nearly 30-40 years ago, and doesn't like disruption. Plan on staying class the whole time, taking detailed notes, and do not pack up before he finishes.

DROP CLASS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. He is very opinionated and tells the class that only 3 or 4 people in the class will succeed. Not good. I can only pray for him.

Always in a bad mood. Told jokes that weren't funny and stayed off subject. The class was hard to keep up with. When we took the final only 9 people were I'm class everyone else had no chance and 5 of those were history majors. Do not take this class

I will NEVER another one of his classes. He is rude, his lectures are never on task and about what we are supposed to be talking about, he absolutely does not care what you have to say. The list of negatives go on & on. His class was a living hell. I dropped without receiving any tuition back and was completely ok with it. Would NOT recommend him.

I would not recommend this man to my worst enemy. He talks about anything and everything except history. Gives test on the small details, but nothing on what we covered in class. I never missed a class and still failed. Not encouraging at all. Told everyone on the first day that we would fail the class and was absolutely correct. Only 13/50 passed!

He gives extra credit quizzes which can add up to more than a letter grade if taken seriously and studied for. His tests aren't the easiest, but if you take notes and study you'll be fine. He gets off subject but he's funny sometimes, you have to actually try and earn your grade, which you should anyways.

Dr. Koerper is definitely not one of the easiest professors at JSU. He tends to get side tracked a lot during lecture, but he goes over all the material for the exam if you pay attention. He's a really brilliant and great teacher. You just have to be ready for many stories about his life that he tends to tie into lecture.

Dr. Koerper is not a difficult teacher, but he definitely is never on the subject and hard to follow. I was a history major, so I basically learned on my own because I wanted to keep up my GPA.

Never on subject. I think I learned more about where he lived in Ohio and about his life in Germany than anything else. Unless you know anything about history from the early times to the 1600s do not take this class!!

I must admit, it was a pretty tough class. I am a history major and I had some trouble making out what was notes and what was not. I did pull out an A in the class, but I have to work my BOOTY off to get it. The class is not impossible but you do have to work. Which you should anyway because it is college!!

Avoid this professor if you can! You learn more about him and his life story than the subject at hand. Besides sitting through his opinions on everything, you must also abridge 3 books for him. It is not reasonable or useful to have a student summarize LITERALLY each and every page of 300+ page books. Would've loved to actually learn about Russia.

This guy strongly radiates cold and hostile vibes that make me wonder, if he really dislikes 20-year-olds as much as he seems to, then why does he enjoy gathering us into classrooms and making us listen to his narrow-minded opinions on anything that pops into his head when we're there to learn medieval history?

Extremely difficult class. Hard to take notes as he mumbles and gets off topic a lot. DO NOT take him during the summer, as he does not change his curriculum to accommodate the shortened class, meaning you'll be doing 4 months worth of harrowing work in 3 1/2 weeks. I'm just thankful I managed a C, but not without very hard work.

to be fair he was monotone and got off topic very easily.I know more about his political views ,and Ohio than the material he taught. Most of his test question were about small details that most people never will remember. I wouldn't tell anyone to take him but if you are good at weeding throught nonsense to find the point then you might survive.
