Dr. Naylor was a terrific professor and I am so glad I got to take him. Cares a lot about helping his students and making sure they care. Hes a tough grader but if you do the work asked of you, which isnt much youll be fine. Really funny, really interesting. I was lucky to have Dr. N.

Professor Naylor's class was one of the first classes I took at Marquette, and I highly recommend taking his class for history. He his a very energetic teacher, and makes the material interesting. Definitely knows his stuff, and his class is far from boring. Tests may be difficult to some, but just be ready to write. Definitely take his class.

You can tell he is really passionate about what he is teaching and he's been everywhere and can speak a ton of languages which is interesting. He can be very confusing at times and you really should read for his class to understand the material. Tests and quizzes aren't to complicated and he has TAs hold really good review sessions so go to those.

Dr. Naylor is extremely intelligent and passionate about what he is teaching. He is a fantastic resource and is always there for students if they need him. He played guitar during the last day of class and is super chill. He is pretty tough on grading, but you know what is expected of you before you have tests or the paper. It is forward

I took Western Civ 20 years ago from Dr. Naylor and I was a really average student. He was brilliant and challenging. I appreciated his gift then but it may have taken me a few years to realize he was one of the best teachers I ever had. I recommend him highly.

Easily the coolest prof I had my first semester. Attend and listen to his lectures, he talks a lot about classic rock and he has pretty interesting life stories. Didn't read the textbook once and got an A on both the midterm and the final, just take good notes in class and use sparknotes for assigned readings. Highly recommend, GPA booster.

Dr. Naylor is one of the coolest professors ever. Every day is an adventure in his class! Western Civ is not an easy class but at least he makes it interesting. You're supposed to buy a bunch of books but it's not really necessary--sparknotes will work. But he does expect you to know the material from the text book.

Naylor is an amazing teacher, possibly one of the best I've ever had in my academic career (and that's saying a lot, as I value my HS history teachers very highly). Taking his class made me switch from political science to history because his love for the subject is so infectious!

I took the class in 2000. The guy speaks volumes and he is more than knowledgeable about western civ. A lot of the bonehead posts on here are just new grads shooting from the hip. They haven't let Naylor's lessons soak in for 10-years or so. Trust me, it's a valued course.

AVOID.Lectures are useless, and are uninformative unless you have a huge base of prior knowledge on the subject. His study guide is helpful, but his essays are impossible: Incredibly vague topics, doesn't provide enough time for you to finish, and there's a lack of info to write if you lack prior knowledge of the subject.Save self headache and avoid

AVOID! He is not a good teacher. His lectures were extremely foreign, and they will be unless you have an immense amount of prior knowledge of the subject. His tests were very vague and hard~ I would study for weeks, and still do poorly. I even went in for help on a paper, and he gave me an F on it because he said my topic was vague...? AVOID AVOID

Naylor is a badass. I had him for history of rock and it was the best class I've taken. The study guides were massive but if you put in the time you will do well. Am definitely taking him again for Middle Eastern history. By the way "Heavy Metal Islam" was one of the most interesting books I've read for a class. Lots of read but very doable

He's a great teacher, definitely knows everything about history, especially since he wrote the text book. It is very helpful going to class because you take a lot of notes in class. The class is pretty demanding especially if its not your major. If you work hard and actually want to learn history its a good class to take.

I don't understand these other reviews. Naylor is not a very good professor, he isn't funny, and he is too impressed with himself. He is pretty disconnected from the student perspective.

I had Dr. N for Western Civ and I loved him! He is a fabulous teacher, probably the best I have ever had. He was so knowledgeable about history. It was an interesting class but the tests were hard and there is a lot of reading involved. If you like history you will love his class! I don't like it but I ended up respecting it a lot more than before!

He was a great professor. However, the subject is very difficult. As a science majoy it was hard to spend this much time for a History class. However, If you like history i'd strongly recomend this teacher. He had a lot of excitement and was always helpful. Really teaches you how to look at history and by the end I even found it interesting.
