Besides listening to lectures, youll be doing a lot of reading. Hes a nice guy and tries to get everyone involved in class. Sometimes his lectures can be kind of hard to follow, like you wont know what is really important so you can study it for an exam but you get the hang of it the longer youre in class.

This was probably one of my favorite classes that I have taken at SBU! We watched movies, read some books and wrote a paper for everything we did. This class was easier than his lower level courses so don't be scared. take it if you have time, its a good time

Dr. Payne has amazing lectures. He does get side tracked very easily. Only a MIDTERM and a final and two papers and an occasional online quiz. The papers are actually interesting. He gives a study guide for the midterm and final. If you memorize it then you're set. I highly recommend!!!

Tough grader but his classes are very interesting. The least boring history class I've ever taken. Would definitely take him again for another history course. He also gets off topic most of the time and tells interesting stories about history. It's awesome!

This guy is an awful teacher! very hard to pay attention to, VERY harsh grader, I had to learn everything on my own that was on the exam. I wouldn't recommend!

He's a nice guy and he really tries to make things interesting. I didn't find him helpful at all outside of class, which was a big let down because I'm terrible at history. I got a B- on everything I did, no matter how hard I tried. He is probably one of the better history teachers though
