I really like Phillip. He's super nice. His syllabus can seem intimidating but he cares about students if they're sick and won't be a stickler about it. Kind of a thick textbook, but the text is so easy it doesn't matter. All material is on canvas which makes for an easy A

Attendance isn't mandatory, but his lectures are really good, and it will help a lot on the tests if you go. He really cares about the material and he cares about making sure everyone in the class is doing well, both in his class and in other classes. He's there to help if you need it. It helps to read the textbook as well.

This is one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Didn't do any of the reading and skipped class all the time. Ended up with a 97%. Take this class for gen ed, it's a great GPA booster.

A great professor. I expected the class to be very dry and I was pleasantly surprised. When discussing religion it was impossible to detect any bias if some exist. When lecturing on Judaism he quoted the Torah in Hebrew, and the Quran in Arabic when studying Islam. A wordly man worth taking.

A few of my classmates seemed annoyed with Schmitz, but he was a great professor to me. Was a little boring sometimes, but he tried to have a sense of humor to make it funner. Except no one would laugh because they wouldn't catch it. Definitely not a tough grader. Just don't BS the class.

Prof. Schmitz goes off on tangents and talks about things that don't pertain to the class. I would recommend that if you want to learn about religion, take someone else.

I would have NEVER taken this class if I had known how boring and ridiculous it was. He is honestly the worst professor I've had at EMU. He is extremely unorganized and doesn't know how to use Canvas. As an Honors student with a 3.85 GPA, he told me that I have poor writing skills. He is ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU'RE HONORS.

Phil (he uses a first name basis), taught honestly my most favorite class so far in college. He uses personal experiences during lecture to break it up from just reading from PowerPoint slides. He is also friendly outside of class and will have a genuine conversation with you.

He is incredibly knowledgeable. Class was a little boring, would have fallen asleep if I wasn't doing something while he was talking. The tests are easy. They're online so answers are easily accessible. If you don't want to read just go to class. Didn't read any of the chapters and did well on every test. There is a worksheet per religion (so 5).

Extremely nice guy, but his lectures are long and boring. You have to read or else you'll fail the tests (unless you actually pay attention in class). Skipped a good 60% of the classes because they were just painful to sit through.

He is very well informed on what he is talking about. All his tests are online and you get one worksheet per topic. It's a good class, but he can be pretty boring at times which can make you want to fall asleep.

I think History 300 is the worst class ever. His lessons are boring and do not teach you anything about writing other than punctuation.

He knows what he's talking about; however, the amount of information that he covers can be overwhelming. All test questions were on the study guide, which helped greatly with the info overload. Very easy to talk to if extra help is needed.

He is a very nice professor with a lot of knowledge, he just doesn't know how to organize it. His syllabus is under constant revision and there is a lot of information thrown at you. Studying for the test is overwhelming because there is no study guide. Other than that, hes a great teacher and a great person. Its not that hard of a class overal
