Phil's ambition isn't to make classes easy for people who don't want to be there or are trying to easily satisfy an elective requirement. Don't want to work? Take an intro to psych class or go to another school. Phil is one of the professors I have ever had in my life, and I attribute much of my success as an archaeologist to what he taught me.

this class was way boring and hard. professor wilke is too old to be teaching. its obvious he is extremely smart and knows his stuff but he doesnt know how to teach it to people who dont know anything about archaeology. the only way i learned anything in that class is through my TA. Professor wilke is extremely incoherent and mumbles often.

Nice guy. Kinda quiet at first, but if you tell him to speak up, he will. Section was pretty sweet, the T.A.'s quizzes weren't that challenging, and the T.A. was pretty helpful as well. Sweet class, despite the professor's quiet and uncaring demeanor, he's actually quite hilarious and is very knowledgeable of the topics.

This guy does not prepare students for the exams or midterm. He goes off on tangent and more times than once, the "off tangent" comments are on the exam. The material that we read for the course, was not even present on the test. Pay attention to lecture at all times because all the material is basically through his discourse.

There are two types of ratings posted here. His students, the positive ones. Not his students, the negative ones. He is boring, monotone, tired of teaching, and resents the students. He is smart and knows the material. Avoid intro classes.

I agree with fellow lithic student! Awesome guy! Knows more about archaeology than almost anyone else at UCR. He is a gruff old man so if you piss him off by not caring then he wont like you, but of you try and are interested you will have success!

Phil is awesome. If you're an anthro major and the subject actually interests you, this is a guy you should get to know. ANTH114 is a fabulous class that isn't offered ANYWHERE else. Very cool, definitely not easy though. He's not too stoked about teaching lower div classes, so I wouldn't recommend those.

I think that those of you that think Phil's classes are difficult have rocks in your head. Any Calculus, Chem or Bio class at UCR is way more demanding, and most of the professors there can't even speak English. It's as if you rate your professors by how easily they hand you an A grade. Go back to RCC!

The only things that will save you from failing this class are his TA's, who, unlike him, supply you with online notes that cover the majority of the tests. Wilke is a monotone, boring proffesor who believes that this class is for experts. Tests were way too long and the questions were off topic most the time. Major curve though, only good thing!

This class sucked. Not ony was it some of the most boring material ever covered, he expects you to retain every inch of it. Way too in depth for an intro class. If I hear "stone tools" one more time I think I might explode...

He expects too much of the students for an intro class. The lectures are vague, how do you take notes on slides of archeaological sites? I'm an anthro major, this class blew, he made the tests not only hard to read, but hard to understand. I know college should be a challenge, but this was unreasonable.

I came into class with an interest in Archaeology. Now I hate it. Wilke is by far the driest, most boring and monotone teacher i've ever had in my life. His tests cover nothing we've done in class, and discussions were not helpful in preparing us for his asinine test questions. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
