He is the worst part of my week. His notes are incomprehensible, and the reading and writing assignments are insane. I SERIOUSLY regret not dropping this class while I had the chance. I'm probably going to fail because I don't understand his teaching style at all.

In spite of the fact that there was copious amounts of reading required for the class, the tests & papers were entirely based on how well you spit back HIS opinion & interpretation of the material. When I was having trouble balancing his class with Honors, he essentially said to choose between his class & the others: I dropped Platt like a rock.

I love the subject, but Platt glazed over a lot of things I think are crucial to the topic. He is also a hard grader and does not make clear what he wants to see in a paper. We also spent too much class time watching movies. I love history, but this class was the worst part of my week.

AVOID. His blue book exams/book essays have broad, opinion-based prompts but then leaves comments like "you misunderstood" or "vague" (not just my exams, either). I never got anything higher than a C-, and he took a week to email me back when I asked for help. Discussion grade based on all attendance & times you speak so go to class & PARTICIPATE.

DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. He does not know how to teach. He is the worst professor I've had at Loyola. I would have never taken this class had I known how miserable it would have been. His syllabus is not clear, he does not set up a blackboard account, and he grades harshly and unfairly. Please don't make the same mistake I did. AVOID HIM!

Awful. His lectures have no structure - he rambles, digresses, mumbles, and his views are ambiguous to the point of incomprehension. He reads the first two pages of your paper and gives you an arbitrary grade without considering the entirety of your argument. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.

I had Platt for history 111. He is extremely rude and will take any chance he can to cut down students for their "stupidity". He does not want his students to excel and seems to find joy in failing them. His lectures are all over the place and don't have any correlation with the books. Do not take any of his classes!

He is a horrible person-- not to mention professor. He just plays videos he made in the 80s that are very boring and poor quality. Then he tests you on it! He failed 17 people for the first paper. He failed several people for (bogus claims of) plagiarism and notified the deans. He has tenure :(

Id understand if you were a History major, but it's a core class and teachers that take those as seriously as he does need to stop teaching. Students take your class out of necessity not desire. He's bad dont take him.

I'm a history major, and this class screwed me up. I LOVE the Civil War Era, but he taught in such a way that it was impossible to get a good grade. I hated his teaching method and was always bored in class. He grades hard, on top of all this. He's the worst teacher I've had. No quesions. Don't take him. You'll never be good enough for him. Had Platt as a professor for 2 years now- with three classes. honestly, hes a great professor if you respect him and take it as seriously as he does. I'm a sophomore and i easily handle his 300 level courses with my eyes closed. I've taken HIST 111, 363, and 385 and easily for an A in them

I just transferred from a very difficult school and he is the only professor at Loyola that has expected as much as the professors from my old school. I like that. i never rate my professors too harshly but this man is horrible. i got a C in his class and im a history major. i worked my a** off. he yelled at me in front of the entire class for having a newspaper out at the beginning of class. not reading it, but had it on my desk. he told me to leave class. no lie. hi is BRUTAL
