We did a paper on a tragedy or disaster using a "launch book." It was fascinating. The class was challenging; Dr.L. cared deeply for us and pushed us but it was worth every minute of effort.

Not a great teacher. Smart, but can't communicate it with the students. Tests are ridiculous. Projects are horrible.

Good at telling history stories.Better off taking this class in off semester with no tutorial teacher!Did not cover enough test material.Got off on too many rabbit trails to be helpful.Very boring class!Round robin reading is pointless for college level learning & not as helpful as could be outside of class either.Needs to smile once in a while!

Rather than lecturing, she often read to the class from Supreme Court for Dummies. With the exception of the case briefs, this course was almost completely lacking authentic assessment. Tests were unreasonably long, and students were often given too little time to complete them to her satisfaction.

Had for American History. Very nice, intelligent person but horrible teacher. Tests were HUGE (130+ questions) and often material was not covered. She never followed the syllabus, and you would be so far behind that she end up condensing the last 1/2 of the syllabus into about 2 weeks. Tests were often on useless trivia. She loves her students.

She is a really great person, not such a great teacher. Lectures are difficult to follow, tests revolve around insignificant details, papers are graded strangely. She is an awesome person to get to know, but a teacher to avoid.

She has the best of intentions but just doesn't get it. Her tests and testing methods are some of the worste you'll ever see. Expect to see a 40-50% curve. She has some interesting material and really cares about her students. Try to avoid her if you can. I'm sure she was a great teacher but it's time for her to retire.

Teacher that should retire. Was probably a good teacher at one time but has fallen deep into a rut. Has lot's of information but most of it is out of date.

I swore id never take another one of her classes. nightmare. i made A's in all of them. but not because of good lecturing. sits and reads from her notes. in order to get an A you must memorize insignificant details. ie what is the name of this presidents dog? HA! unreal. the only history teacher at BJU not worth taking.

It was a very interesting class, Miss Larson is a very sweet lady, bu t there is absolutely no organization. We were never sure when there was a quiz. Syllabus was not followed. Good points were the enormous amount of extra credit offered.

Easily the worst class I've ever taken. She taught junior-high history for years and when she moved up to the University she just doubled the size of her tests. All we did two semesters was memorize irrelevant trivia and attempt to regurgitate it on her oversized exams. Her taste in textbooks is also atrocious; I burned mine at the end of the year.

She really does care about her students, but is rather distant at this point. She sadly realizes that she is close to retirement, something which doesn't come easy. Her classes are about as self taught as otherwise, but she will help with a curve and extra credit if things look bleek.

Dr. Larson is a very nice woman and cares for her students, but she is not a very good teacher. She did not explain things clearly and often times had material on the tests that was not covered in her lectures or in the book. She also had questions on the tests from future chapters in the book that had not been covered yet. It was very frustrating.
