Hands down the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. Doesn't use a syllabus, doesn't teach, leaves you in the dark, and has the TAs grade everything, to which they grade extremely hard. Ralph Kelsey is the epitome of everything that is flawed with the education system.

This man should not teach. he tries to write the code on the board and the type it into putty. most of the time it ends up not working and he ends up mumbling to himself to figure out whats wrong. I learned the most from the labs which were run by TAs. The TAs grade everything and tend to grade very hard. overall 10/10 would not recommend.

Ralph is a great guy. He shows up to lecture ready to teach. If you have homework questions in the evening go to the skull, you can find him there.

He's very funny and nice and will help if you ask, but the tests are very hard to prepare for. Projects are easy if you start early and lab is fine. You won't learn squat about actually programming unless you teach yourself, though. Expect a lot of self learning. I would recommend reading a JAVA book and doing practice well before taking this class

Trys to give examples on the board, ends up trailing off into something else. After hes done hell try to return to his example and get lost. I take away more from my small time in lab then I do lecture.

Nice guy, horrible teacher, easily can get lost in his lectures. One second hes talking about the coding, the next he is talking about a lightbulb blinking (like todays class) or how something is funny in code and how it sounds. He cant teach, he leaves you confused. You need to teach yourself this cause he will not.

To sum up my experience of Kelsey in words, he misspells his own name in emails. He repeats what he talks about in lectures continuously. Nice guy, but he should really see a doctor as he is getting up there in age. He is the reason I wanna switch majors.

Would not recommend this professor to anyone. Lectures do NOT help, only way to learn the material is to learn it on your own. He veers off on many subjects and never finishes the current topic, leaving you extremely confused.

Easily the worst professor I've ever had. He is extremely unorganized. He doesn't utilize a syllabus. He often forgets to tell the class that we have an exam until the class before, leaving us to cram in 2 days. Be prepared to teach yourself Java because he sure didn't help me with that. Hope you have some friends that are CS majors, you'll need it

Just spits a bunch of facts about programming and what things do during lectures. Honestly you won't learn anything from going to class. Only time things will actually get better is during labs when you are left to figure everything out on your own. In conclusion you basically get to teach yourself how to write Java while he talks about dumb stuff.

He basically word vomits. Nice guy and has funny stories but that's his lecture, you'll leave wondering what just happened. The labs are what teach you, assignments are not hard just crazy confusing. Plenty of time to prepare for exams but you won't know where to start, he repeats exam questions so prepare. This is a teach yourself course.

"Some" students might not relate to Dr. Kelsey's lecture because: 1. He might be "a little" fast in presenting the material, but if you stay focused in class, you can follow the lecture. 2. He frequently erases what he writes on the board which might cause students to lose the track. 3. He brings up tangents that are actually insightful.

NO TEACHING HERE!!! Just random info, he is not organized by any means!!! His lesson plans do not follow the labs or his tests that well. He knows what he's doing programming wise but does not have the teaching ability to spread the knowledge.

I actually really liked Dr. Kelsey. He's very well read and knowledgeable in the subject. I did get lost sometimes but he puts up reviews of everything he went over at the end of each week. Homework and tests are reasonable and you know exactly what to expect for every quiz and test.

If you are a huge John Madden fan, you are in for a treat! Do you like listening to someone use the phrase "Be that as it may" over and over and over in strange ways. Kelsey is the man for you! Never mind the fact that he doesn't understand the material nearly enough to teach it to a college student! Take this class and teach yourself!

I like him as a person but he is a terrible teacher, at least for Discrete Structures. Confusing and misleading lectures, NEVER GRADES ANYTHING. we have to BEG him to give us grades so we know how we're doing in the class. Once he does grade stuff, you really have to look over what he passes back because he makes a lot of grading mistakes.

Is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject and likes it very much when someone else feels the same way, but he leaves a lot for the TA to cover. I knew most of the material already and the course was like a breeze (discrete math). Homework and exams and quizzes are easy but he does give a lot of homework!
