I've never resented a person like I resent professor lentz. He grades in the most arbitrary ways and is arrogant condescending & useless as a professor. I went to his office hours once for clarification on lecture and he said "if you didn't take good enough notes you'll have to rely on wikepedia" which turned out to be a more reliable source anyway

Do NOT take this class or you will end up failing or wanting to drop. I don't even know why they still let him teach he is horrible. Most people end up dropping his class, so if you start with 15 students he will be lucky to have 5/6 when he is done. He is the worst teacher I have ever seen in my life.

He is a very nice guy but his teaching overall sucks. He hates technology. If you read the books and do the homework you will still get about a 60 on the quiz/ test. He is an impossible grader (wants it worded how he would say it). If you ask him to repeat a topic hell tell you to use google to figure it out. I dont know why he is still a teacher

I'm an upperclassman Biology major taking his world empire class as a way to finish some gen ed and it is by far the hardest class I've taken.... He is super unclear about what he wants you to learn, and will find a way to take off points on tests even if you completely understand. I think he's a great guy and he's really nice, but he's rough.

Don't get me wrong, Lentz is a great guy but his teaching style is a bit eh. He will not repeat anything in class unless you can be sneaky about it, absolutely no technology in his class and is very jittery or seems unorganized. Always do the reading, because pop quizzes are a thing. Even if you do the reading, you can still fail the quizzes.

Professor Lentz is a great lecturer and knows his stuff, but it's very hard to follow him at times. He grades the tests on what he wants to hear and he gives pop quizzes on readings and lecture notes. Very tough grader and if you're not into history, you will get very bored.

One of the best lecturers at App State. His class is entirely lecture based, so get ready to take notes and he hands out both lecture and reading quizzes periodically. Lentz is pretty funny and he is very passionate about history which makes hime very easy to pay attention to. Tests are kinda hard, but if you pay attention in class then youre good.

Very interesting lectures. Lentz is very funny and ares about his students. He is a very tough grader, I recommend meeting with him during office hours regularly. I am a History major and I found his class challenging, yet I learned a lot. Defiantly would take him again. Work hard and study and you will make an A or B, not easy but manageable.

Professor Lentz was an interesting lecturer and a nice guy, but proved to be an extremely hard grader. In order to do well (or at least pass), you must be prepared to study very hard and read ALL of the provided material. This is not because he tests you on footnotes, but rather because you must have an in-depth knowledge of the subject.

First and foremost, he is a tough grader. As long as you do attend class, take a lot of detailed notes, and study well in advance for tests you'll pass. The syllabus will be your best friend because not many in class reminders are given for the texts you have to read. A quiz will almost always be given after reading the texts as well.

I went to his office hours one time to get help with an answer to my study guide, he asked for my notes from that day and when he saw that it wasn't in my notes he told me to get the answer from a classmate. He makes up definitions for greek words, his lectures do not make any sense, overall a bad teacher. If you take his class, study groups help

Tests are based on random vocab words that he flies over and if you look up their definition on the Internet, you can never find them. Also, if you don't word something exactly as he would, he will take points off. Only take this class if you are into boring philosophy stuff. The name of the class is misleading.

Ralph means well and it is obvious that he is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching. However, his lectures are very boring and hard to follow as he does a poor job of connecting ideas that he "suggests to you" throughout the lecture. Pop quizzes are frequent so you must read the text and they are very difficult. Tests are graded heavily.

This class is hard. Take good notes because there are pop quizzes that add up. Read the assigned books. The study guides he gives you are very useful. A very challenging professor but the class is so worth it. Everyone is called on to read at least once, and try to participate in discussions. He recommends literature not class related that is good.

Please don't take this professor. He gives impossible quizzes and horrific tests and grades very harshly. He doesn't cite any information he uses and if you go to his office hours without flawless notes then he'll tell you to look it up on wikipedia. I see why he doesn't have a PhD. I worked incredibly hard in this class, learned nothing.

I took his class my first semester here and he is by far my least favorite professor I have ever had (now a junior). He takes points off your final grade if you use the bathroom during class and if you're even 1 minute late you get a 0 on whatever quiz or test is being given that day. Treats you like middle schoolers.

worst professor I have ever had. I made an A in one history class and just about failed this one? He never posts any grades online so you rarely know exactly where you stand in the class. Tells you Greek words "just cause". Teaches own ideas. He says "let me suggest this to you" so much that I started counting... 17 times in a 50 minute class.

A history major, I have never had a less qualified instructor at UNCW, CFCC, or App. Uses Greek terms that he makes up the meanings to, not in a textbook. He gets dates wrong frequently, he should be on the History Channel, not in the history department. I see why he has no PHD, hes not cut out to be a true professor. THE WORST/AHISTORICAL TEACHER
