Comment:
He is a very specific taste - very few liked his class, I have been with him two semesters, 201 and 202. He is poetic, vague in specific directions (i.e. how to evolve your designs) but specific in fundamentals (i.e. logical placements of programs, intentions). If you can't figure out your project for yourself, forget about it.

Comment:
One thing that makes Ran unique is that he really likes ambiguity/loose ends/vagueness in a project, because he believes that some mysteriousness gives the work greater artistic value. I like precision and completeness, so this class was very frustrating to me. Take note.

Comment:
There will be thought experiments in space-making, but no architecture. This class is totally irrelevant to an architecture career, but may interest those who are artists.

Comment:
Ran is a deceitful "architect". He has little to no respect for the profession or classroom, save as incomprehensibly vague metaphor. He submitted a tasteless WTC competition entry, and his work in impoverished areas of the city ignore local community board agreements. He holds no license. Avoid him if you seek rational, humanitarian architecture.

RAN ORON IS A DISSERVICE TO PRATT AND ARCHTIECTURE AT LARGE. HE IS UNCOMMITTED, USUALLY LATE, HAS A REDUCTIVE SINGLE-MINDEDNESS, AND IS UNRECEPTIVE TO IDEAS THAT DON'T ALLOW HIM TO DAYDREAM. HE IS IN NO WAY RIGOROUS OR INTELLECTUAL AND IS DECEITFUL IN HIS RELATIONS WITH STUDENTS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Just blah! He pretty much comes every other class and has not much interest in the student's projects unless he likes you. His side kick Anthony Titus is even worse. Oron loves poetry and hand drawings and your good. If not you are kicked out like me. Have no respect.

ran is somewhat of a hippie, always blabering about poetry, im certain he has no idea what poetry is. He has his favorite students, good professor to take because he wont tell you anything, you have to do everything by yourself

Its all about helicopters! Cross fertilization of ideas. We have a major graphic designer adding to the mix. The only design class that includes cross disciplinary work. Outstanding.

Ran puts a premium on independent capacity. Unlike most prof's who stamp out clones Ran will draw out your genius. Refreshing. He is a subtle and unassuming genius. He accepts your criticisms of him well. Asks critical questions. You learn from yourself.

The class is free to do as you like. There is no criticism, just subliminal nudges--but if you don't mind a non-productive semester, take him. He is not passionate about the class and the work reflects that.

Ron's a very nice guy with an interesting, open-minded approach to architecture. Be warned though, sometimes he tends to back off and force you to figure things out on your own!

Ron is so easy going it will surprise you. The whole idea of architecture is tension and compression. He takes you to a place no other professor can. He is quite amazing, nice and will not poke fun at you just because you are the student.
