Comment:
He is very frustrating to listen to. Examples he gives in class are nowhere near as hard as the ones on the homeworks and exams. Spends the first 15 minutes of every class talking about random things that are unrelated to what youre learning. Projects are long (35-50 pages), and he doesnt address important parts of the project until due date.

Long homework which can be tedious and meaningless! Attend classes to get lecture notes.

As others have stated, he frequently tells you to refer to the course text for info. While the text is actually quite useful at times, the topics he'll refer are sometimes not even covered in the text! His lectures are almost worthless, but I attended them all because that's just how I am and he'll usually tell you what questions are on the exam.

"Pretty straight forward" "just read it in the text" were phrases he would use far too often to get out of actually working through the problem. Especially for a 300 level Mechanical Engineering course.

Not only is professor Cipra terrible and explaining the material he needs to, he refuses to review material that is crucial for learning. He will call everything (even brand new material) 'trivial' and will refuse to do examples. Exams in this class are not about how well you can work through the material, but if you can see the subtle trick.

This guy knows his material but is incredibly withholding, intentionally only stating key information once or twice at a maximum. He has office hours during prime class time, and it is incredibly difficult to schedule meetings outside of that time.

Tough grader for no reason. Exams and labs aren't returned until the end of the semester. Exams don't test your knowledge of the subject only tests your ability to remember phrases from the book.

gives a ton of work and expects more from students than what they can give. No clear grading criteria. can give very dry boring lectures that are hard to follow. Close to useless in office hours because he explains it the same way again and again and gets frustrated when you don't understand.

Prof Cipra tries to be funny in the class with some outdated jokes. He expects something which he never conveys clearly. Very strict marking and the papers are very low on standard of engineering. He expects you to read some weird readings and you end up losing marks on the silliest of questions. Manages to screw up a v imp design course. VVPOOR.

Expected much more from this class. Ended up with exams which put an emphasis on study by heart and memorization book content and million bullet points. I found it very hard to memorize so many useless words from the textbook. He made fun of something from my part of the world during my 1st semester in the U.S. Made me feel so unwelcome.

Exams require memorization which I feel is not an effective way to test students. I think his goal is trying to make sure you read the text. There are other ways that are less time consuming to do that. Otherwise I enjoyed the content and his methods of teaching. Thought he was very good. Labs can be time consuming but are effective and relevant.

A difficult professor. Minutia focus. Complete disconnect to industry. Examinations are highly detailed. The project is time consuming without benefit of academic or industrial skill development. Cipra is unhelpful. One positive, not hard to get A, only requires significant time.

Clear, easy-going, uses real world examples & creates simulated real-world projects. One of the best professors for preparing students for careers outside of academia.

Because this class is taught on campus and via television broadacst (taped), it is challenging to meet the demands of all students. The prof. does an excellent job presetning the material in such a way that those both on and off campus can understand it

The professor is HORRENDOUS and ARROGANT. His tests come from no where. Read the book, study the notes, do LOTS of homework/projects and still NOT get a good grade. No Feedback either. Tests do not reflect the material learned in class.

I'm currently finishing my Masters through Purdue and haven't learned a thing through Purdue that I hadn't already learned from a Michigan University I will never recommend anybody I ever meet to go to Purdue. Cipra was the worst instructor of all.

Is a total idiot and has not a clue what we struggle through. If all students fail, that means the teacher failed them. Did not learn a thing, other than how self-centered a person can be. Waste of time as to the many long long hours of unnecessary work.
