Comment:
It's a decent class if you like Native American history. There are no papers, and a few quizzes that aren't too hard. The lectures can be a little dry, but overall a decent class.

Comment:
Lakota Culture Class- Prof. DeMallie is absolutely a treasure trove of information. His teaching style is very lecture oriented with barely any slides or visual effects, but it is a part of his "other era" charm! He has so many stories to tell that are fun and interesting. If Native American culture is your thing, he's the one to count on!

Laid back lecturer, but his voice isn't really monotone, just softer and less intense than most professors, reminds me of a nice minister. Read the books and take notes on larger points, and you should be fine. He has tons of very interesting ancedotes to go with all the topics.

Comment:
Obviously intelligent and likes his subject, but he has a very monotonous voice. I had trouble staying awake in this class not because the subject wasn't interesting but because his voice made me drowsy. Doesn't use supplemental material at all, like lecture notes or power points; he justs talks and expects you to gather the important points.

Prof. is a laid back guy who likes to tell stories and a lot can be learned from him. Has a really great attitude about "outsiders" to the subject, is always open to a new perspective, and is wise outside his subject. I learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

Wow. Never take a class with this man- ever. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. As boring as you can imagine times 10. I read the above post and decided to try a class with him b/c I really wanted to take it, but he truely sucks.
