This professor understands the math so thoroughly, he assumes you shod too. That's the only take away with this professor. He might come on strong to start but he's very knowledgeable and will help you comprehend what ever you are working on.

Comment:

Grades come from tests and take-home assigntments handed out before tests. However, expectations of students are laid out very clearly so you won't have anything to worry about. Before each test, a packet is handed out with problems in the textbook which often show up on tests so doing them and studying thoroughly is a must for this course.

Comment:

Good teacher, but almost never engages with the class. Is pretty much just there to lecture for 2.5 hours with a 5 minute break in the middle. All of your grade will come from the multiple tests in the course. There is no class participation, group work, or personal help. I did fine in the course but I wouldn't take one by him again.

I had Professor Maruca for Calc 1 and Calc 2. He's very clear on what he expects from students. If you copy whatever he does on the board into a notebook and use that to study, you'll do great on the tests. He doesn't throw in any trick questions or anything unexpected. Great professor!

Don't let the reviews on here scare you. If you are a responsible student and don't skip class, pay attention to every lecture and do every last homework problem assigned, you will do just fine in his class. The reviews on here had me scared to take him but I never got less then a 95 on a test in his Calc 1. He is an absolutely fabulous professor.

I didn't like his teaching style and personality. More of a business teacher. Although, he is a smart teacher and is never stumped. Tests are EXTREMELY hard, no partial credit, and he's a very tough grader. He doesn't drop any grade. Went from a B to a D from Calc 1 to Calc 2.

Professor Maruca is excellent. He makes everything so clear and is quite helpful. But you'll never get an A in his class. It's easy to learn to do the practice problems he shows us, but when the test finally appears the math on it is so brutal, you will fail every time. You'll walk out having mastered calculus...but you'll still fail the course.

Professor Maruca is an extraordinary teacher. he is the kind of teacher who wants students study math by knowing where anything came from. No teacher of math is comparable to him at DCCC and i would suggest all the teachers go to him and ask him how students should be taught math

He's a great teacher, but be prepared to work extremely hard. Don't expect an easy A or even an easy B. He grades solely by the tests but there's never a surprise, he tells you exactly what to study. I especially recommend him if you're going into high level math. If you're stopping at Calc I or below however, someone else would probably be best.

Best math teacher ever.Noone does it better.Not only does he teach the math material,but also applies it in a context to the real world and how they are connected.Most teachers just teach the "what" part but he teaches the "why" too.Dedicated to teaching, never takes a shortcut in his job.Alot of the teachers here should show up to see how its done

Comment:

One of the best math professors at DCCC. He's extremely knowledgeable, helpful, but serious. Gives awesome explanations. Teaches what you need to know, then reviews EXACTLY what concepts will be on the test. Doesn't suffer slackers gladly. From my experience, if you don't go to class, take notes, or do your homework, you WILL NOT do well.
