Comment:
Professor Root is extremely kind but her syllabus was extremely convoluted. She takes off lots of points for minor parts of assignments. I didnt ever have to take notes in the class, but that being said, we never talked about anything of substance. She babbled a lot and I had a very hard time staying focused. You also have to participate A LOT.

Although her COLL 100 is easy if you know a decent amount of Spanish, it was the biggest waste of time I have ever experienced. It is more of an art class than a Spanish class, and she just talks about a Chilean painter named Roser Bru the entire time without discussing many other topics in censorship. Pretty easy class, but I would rather learn.

I look her COLL 100 class on Censura. She is one of the nicest and most caring people you will ever meet. I loved how organized she was by telling you all the due dates on her syllabus. Although there were some misunderstandings on some assignments, she was always made accessible to clear up any questions. It wasn't a lot of work for a COLL100.

This class was honestly ridiculous. The amount of busy work we did was insane. She does not teach at all. Honestly she's the worst professor I've ever had. The entire class is spent discussing things that will not be on the test. You have to teach yourself anything of importance. She's a very subjective grader. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER.

Professor Root is the best spanish teacher I have ever had. She is so understanding and kind. She is very passionate about teaching spanish which really helped me learn the language. The work load is pretty moderate. It is very important to attend class. tests pretty easy. However, you do have to study!! Also it is very important for you to engage

She's not bad at all, but she can be pretty slow at getting assignments back. The class isn't bad either, but its really repetitive. Don't let the fact that its called "Ethical Fashion" fool you--its ALL about sweatshops. Overall it is pretty easy, def have to attend class.

Fun and passionate woman, but a little overzealous. Demanded much reading and written assignments. Very helpful if you attend her office hours/try in class. Her written assignments were very vague and it was frustrating because I did not know what she was expecting from my papers.

Very sweet, understanding, and enthusiastic - wants her students to perform well. Her class was fun and engaging. In addition to language, we also learned cultural info and facts (best part). Thank you for a wonderful summer Professor Root!

Her class can seem ridiculously pointless/trippy/dumb at times but she is very nice. You can't say she's not enthusiastic but it's just her teaching style can be a little disjointed at times. But very nice and a pretty easy grader.

Maybe she's good in other classes, and she IS extremely nice and helpful, but Intro to HS sucked. Concepts covered were vague and poorly defined, which made it hard to discuss them intelligently on papers. Group discussion is excruciating because no one knows what the hell we're talking about

I hate to have to say this, but although she is absolutely the sweetest, most understanding professor I have ever met, her class is unbearable. THe "focus questions" were repetitive, vague, and self-explanatory. Too much disc. among classmates and didn't feel like I learned anything.

She's beyond nice, but such a space cadet. Her class is really boring. Not that hard, but unless you love spanish it's boring. Didn't learn a whole lot, just took forever reading and talking about La Canicula, which is sort of boring.

Fun, positive, and intelligent, Prof Root bends over backwards to help students understand material and to help them with any concerns or questions. The coursework can be mind numbingly dull, but RR makes it tolerable. If you're uncertain about taking Spanish, try it with RR.

Hated the class, but Root herself is very nice and helpful. She always has a smile on her face. The reading was difficult and the lectures could be dull occasionally. The same key phrases appeared over & over, like "struggle for interpretive power" and "construction of national identity."

Excellent prf. Def. recommend her. Very enthusiastic, helps to make class go by. Encourages students to discuss the novel you read for class in Spanish. Very fair grader, if you study the worksheets and assignments on syllabus, it's not too difficult to get an A.
