Comment:

Absolutely LOVE dr. Hulan. Simply one of the best profs Ive ever had. Her lectures make boring topics extremely intereresting. She allowed me to write a midterm at a later date without even questioning. She really cares about students and makes an effort to get to know them. Even if youre not studying English I highly recommend taking her class!

Very nice lady. The class did not have very many assignments and was an easy course as long as you read the books. However I found many classes extremely boring, at times she used the whole class to talk about the book we had already read on our own time. It made me ask why I woke up at 7 in the morning to be there.

A profound English prof! A sweetheart but NOT a push over. Does not tolerate talking while she's speaking. Teaches and explains the course material very well. Does review classes before midterms and finals. She loves to create relationships with individual student and has a genuine interest in their well being. Very understanding

Dr. Hulan is super nice and a great prof. although this course was actually a bit tougher than i'd anticipated for an intro, she is so knowledgable and insightful about what she's teaching. she really encourages students to think deeply. definitely go to class, she marks participation. if you're struggling she's more than happy to help!!

Such a Great prof. my favorite at SMU hands down. As long as you go to all of the lectures and do the majority of the readings the class is a breeze.Make sure you do the readings before class because there is always a discussion about each reading and if you speak up during class she recognizes you for that during marking.

A lot of readings in this class, but she highlights the important parts of each text in class, so just attend class, takes notes, and you'll do well. Her final is quite hard because it's on 30+ texts that you need to know very well. Midterm and in-class essay are easy to do well on, and she lets you bring a cheat sheet for the essay. Very friendly.

This professor taught me advance fiction I found her to be very helpful with things i had difficulty learning. She does tend to get a bit too deep, but it helped open up my mind. Now for the amount of textbooks we covered in this class was a bit much but she facilitated much time for feedback on improving your self and paper. I was very pleased.

I'll start by saying I HATE English class. I find it difficult to understand and a large part of this class consisted of middle English. Looks like German to me. I went to her for help and while very nice, was of little assistance. She gets very deep. I'll pass on her to retake my class!

I love her!! She's so adorable you can put her in your pocket and super nice. She is willing to help and she's pretty lenient if english isn't your thing. Going to her office and asking her for help can go a LONG way. You can bring a double sheet for the in class essay. She's very thorough with the readings. Take her!

not bad... but definitely not great either. you have to attend class, and make sure to take notes. she does a prep class for the exam.. it's helpful to go, but only go if you have some questions. she also does an in-class essay, where you have 2 possible topics, and you can bring a double sided sheet of typed notes.

Dr. Rene Hulan is a decent professor... I wouldn't say she was my favorite, but she did help me out a lot when I needed it. I enjoyed the class because there was no tests, and only an in class essay. Only one library assignment and some stuff on BlackBoard.. Very easy stuff. Pretty easy course if you read the books. Read the book and you'll succeed

Great course, knows her stuff! She was helpful, understanding, and tried her best to give everyone chances to get a good mark (make-ups, re-writes, extra assignments, etc). A lot of reading, but it IS a literature course ... great job! Would recommend!
