Comment:
Dewitt tries his best to be a nice guy and a good teacher but fails miserably. His tests are almost impossible to get an A on, as you have no basis for the information he is asking about. You have to go by his own words. Grades a little easier on essays. I would suggest seeing him as much as possible.

He grades based on what he wants you to say rather than if you know the material. Terrible professor who doesn't seem interested in helping his students.

Very interesting and charismatic guy. Had him for two different classes and don't have any regrets. He is a tough grader and you will be doing some writing but if you read the books and are interested in the material then you will do fine.

He's a tough grader on papers and tests. In his class, you need to study pretty hard for the tests and expect to do long explanations on his tests, which are mostly big essays. Do not take this guy.

If you are reading this, all you need to know is to not take this class. By far worst teacher I've ever had, and he won't be helpful to you either. If you are forced to take him good luck and enjoy failing.

Easily one of the best and smartest teachers I had at Fairfield. He explains everything very clearly and is eager to help. Very easy to talk to and extremely helpful. He cares about his students and really wants them to succeed. Just a great guy in general, definitely take at least one class with him.

He is the best teacher I've had at Fairfield. He is very clear during class notes. Tests are essay form and kind of hard. Go to his office hours before tests and papers, he will help you. You'll come out knowing so much, amazing teacher!

Such a good teacher. He isn't an easy A, but you learn so much from him. I started off with a bad grade, but managed an A- for class. God to his office hours, he is very helpful. Nice guy and an excellent teacher. Best teacher I've had at FU

Not the easiest core class, but he is very very clear about what he wants on tests and papers. It seems easy to understand, but don't be surprised if your grade seems low on the first test or paper. You will improve. He is both simplistic and articulate, and he seems kind of dull but is pretty nice. PH 10 is no cakewalk no matter who you have.

Nice guy, very hard grader. Papers have a very specific format... basically answer his question with no bs. Weekly quizzes are confusing, but dont count for much. 2 midterms, one final.. basically you write everything you know on the question. Not the easiest core class

he's not the worst philosophy teacher at fairfield...he's a really easygoing guy who has a very casual class setting, but don't let it fool you, he grades his papers & tests really weird. basically write the way he wants you to and you'll be fine. not too much outside classwork, but not an easy A.

Professor Dewitt is amazing! He is a pool of knowledge about philosophical and scientific topics. The only people who do poorly are those who come to class without a piece of paper and a pen. He lets you pretty much tailor papers to your liking, and all that he asks in return is that you do the reading. I had a ton of fun in his class! Take him!!

This guy sucks. Hes hard, hes boring, he basically has nothing else to do with his time but assign almost impossible tests (basically to get a B, you memorize the book), and papers. For a core class this guy has got way too much time on his hands and he doesnt care about the student...he cares about selling his crappy book.

I graduated in '01 and I still talk about this Prof. He's the reason I seriously considered majoring in philosophy, and I didn't even get A's. Until my parent's nixed that one with a "what are you going to do when you graduate? Sit upon a rock and pontificate?" In retrospect and with the job I have now I should have majored in philosophy.
