He is one of the most amazing lecturers that I have sit in on. He is clear and concise. He enjoys bringing up contemporary issues and tying them to the subjects. He is difficult but if you keep up with the reading you will do well I highly recommend him

I took Dr Dougherty's Politics class over Interterm and LOVED it. Politics is not my forte at all, but his passion for his subject and his enthusiasm made the class great. I didn't work hard at all, and he mercifully gave me an A- anyway.

A great professor. Unlike many other professors (especially at UD), he is more interested in helping you improve your work than giving a bad grade to put you in your place. I would recommend for many reasons, though his desire to truly see his students learn is the primary reason. He is also articulate, very intelligent, and caring.

I absolutely loved this class because of Dougherty! I was a Biology major ('03) and if I had more room to take electives, I would have taken them from him because he was such a great teacher. Tests were completely fair, lectures lucid, and quizzes were basically free points if you took good notes on the readings he assigned. Very passionate too!
