If you really dont love History, stay away. Very difficult exams. He was very intelligent, but he was old school. I would go to learn more History from him anytime.

Brilliant. Expects students to work. Reading was about 100pages/week. Assigned primary source research paper (20-25pg length). Disliked by students wanting an easy A and taking it as a requirement.

I was lucky enough to have Doctor Kottman for multiple history classes in 1994-1995 and he was the hardest teacher and tester I ever had. People who thought he was boring or that he used too many textbooks may have had a minimal interest in the subject. Funny guy, too.

I wish he wasn't retiring so I could rate him and have it make a difference. Worst history class ever. Drones on and on and then puts a movie in. Expects you to read 8 (lengthy) books that are more boring than he is.

Very tough professor. Expects you to read 1000's of pages per week and all assesments come from the reading. He forces you to learn a great deal to pass the class. Advise to stay away or take the class pass/fail. History buffs (myself) still have trouble understanding all the information and keeping up.
