Though his lectures can be a bit confusing (9am class didn't help), he is always more than willing to talk with you after class even if you've missed classes (providing crucial info on how to do hw). I mostly fault the book for my confusion in this course. He's very friendly, more concerned with your understanding than you getting hw done w/o help.

kind of the absent minded professor. I think he is too used to upper level math and students and was a little out of his element in a 100 level course. nice guy, good class atmosphere, but not the best teacher. I chose Cohen over Lavine for 164 but regret the choice.

He's a friendly guy and he's not arrogant so he'll try to help you if you go to him, but his class was terrible. He has a very hard time conveying main ideas and his example problems are all over the place.
