The 3 classes I've taken with Rich Martin have been both the most challenging AND the most fun classes I've taken in my English career. He may be tough and have high expectations, but that only makes you try harder. The guy knows his stuff, and he'll make sure you do too. Sometimes he's a little... blunt. But grow a backbone, people. And get a sense of humor. The guy's hilarious, and I'm sad to know he's leaving Cornell this year. He will be missed!

Awesome prof! I have had two classes with him- they are always discussion based and he is always more interested in students' opinions. I have NEVER been bored in one of his classes, and they are very rewarding in terms of all the work you do.

He is a hard prof, but he knows his material and teaches it well. Some don't like him b/c he doesn't hold back from reprimanding you when you've messed up, but at least he won't let students get away with stuff they shouldn't. Has great sense of humor!
