Comment:

There needs to be more Marc Smiths at OSU: challenging but great/thorough. There are far too many egotistical profs and Murdock is no exception. Avgs hover around 50% and I could care less what the curve is, if you have to curve that much, you're failing as a teacher. OSU needs to do right and rid Fisher of professors like Murdock.

Awful! Usually I feel like these comments on here are just exaggerated by students who don't try, but not this time! I have a 3.92 GPA and will be happy with a C or D (and that's only b/c he curves). Midterm average=50%. Haven't got the final grade yet, but honestly did not feel sure about 1 single question! I am not exaggerating,DO NOT TAKE HIM!

He is knowledgeable and does know whats best for the CPA exam. However, I think that at this point its best to get down the concepts BEFORE learning the CPA, which he does not do. Be prepared to teach yourself how to do the problems and know the material, because his lectures are BORING and hard to follow. Very tough to get a good grade.

Absolutely awful. Wastes class time rambling on about the CPA exam and how no one will pass it, never does sample problems or anything to help you learn the material. I was bored to tears in every class. He curves a lot but it's still impossible to get a good grade(exam averages were around 55%). Avoid if you can!!

Impossible. I cried everyday in that class. He expects everything from you, but will teach you NOTHING. do NOT take him, but the irronic part is, he is the only person that teaches 523. All he does is talk about the CPA exam, and how we will fail. You must come to class or you loose 25 points, but the class is pointless.

He still strikes a nerve five years post grad. His class was the reason I did not have a 4.0 in my major. His ego and rambling about the CPA exam make class worthless. He's not a CPA. His tests were taken from the publisher. As far as the CPA exam, it's challenging because there is such a huge pool from which to pick questions. It's doable.

I had him for 3 weeks, and he is terrible. 523 students TAKE MARC SMITH IF YOU CAN IN THE SUMMER!! It's worth planning out so that you take marc smith's 523 in the summer. Marc is the BEST ACCT PROFESSOR in fisher hands down. I actually learned soo much in his class and got an A. Seriously think about what I am saying if you are an acct major.

This prof has been a bad memory even 15 yrs. after graduation.I grad Summa so I was no idiot.He was unable to communicate his subject matter and substituted arrogance for teaching ability.As an 35y/o,not used to dealing with such lack of professionalism,I dropped, aced it with another prof and just to prove him wrong-passed the CPA exam 1st try.

I want to start by saying that before this class I actually enjoyed accounting classes. Having said that, Murdock is the WORST professor that I've had at OSU. He made up ridiculous rules like, if you have to miss class for any reason you get minus 25 points for attendance. Also, the tests are made up of cpa questions & are all or nothing.

I had heard bad things about this class, and it was as bad as everyone said it was. Going to class is virtually useless because of his long tangents about the CPA exam. Exams are extremely difficult. Many of the questions are not like anything we did in class and many are taken right from the CPA exam. It's a shame he still teaches at Fisher.

He is by far the worst professor I've had at Fisher. His lectures always went over the alloted time, but over half of it was worthless information. Read the book and have a general understanding of the material. Don't worry about the grade, he curves a lot.

His tests were extremely difficult. The average grades were 45 and 50%. He teaches easy problems in class and then takes questions from the CPA exam for his tests. However, his curve was much better than I expected.

Very very difficult class, but obviously required for all Accounting majors. Averages are usually 40-50% on tests. Teaches class as if it were a CPA class. Bad on responding to emails. Must read book but even that won't get you a good grade. Curved the class by about 25 percentage points.
