He assigns 10 homework problems a class and yes, his exams are difficult, 10 10 point problems. BUT, he re-tested every one of our exams. A week later, you bring in your graded 1st exam and answer new versions of problems you did poorly on. He then gives you the highest points per problem of both tests!!!

First test avg. was a 37.5% because someone actually scored in the 60s with the lowest being 1 pt out of 100 ( a 1% really). Think about that before taking his class.

Be warned: this is the professor of bare minimums. He'll do just enough in class to check off the box of "reviewing" the material, but will not adequately prepare the student for his exams. If you decide to take this professor, be ready to find a tutor and teach yourself the material. If this is your first time taking Calculus II, RUN.

Had him for the summer semester. He's a nice guy but probably needs some help. He doesn't do a great job of explaining the material. He doesn't give a syllabus with dates, and his tests are only a few questions along with a take home part worth 10%. He can get pretty offended if you ask questions because he thinks you're questioning his knowledge.

Got stuck with Dr. Noren after our old professor left two weeks into the semester. He's a very nice person and very helpful. However if tests are a weakness for you, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He give little to no partial credit at all. Lectures will put you to sleep but he tries. Overall nice professor, good mentor, terrible grader.

Dr Noren is one of the best teachers I have had here at ODU. He is so knowledgeable and helpful. If you have any questions, definitively take advantage of his office hours. Very sweet guy. His class is difficult but if you keep up with the homework in the book, tests shouldn't be too hard. TAKE DR NOREN!!

He is a nice guy and really enthusiastic about the course. More then once he proved or showed us how some algebra tricks that we may have forgotten. The course was graded 3 tests 70% and the final was 30% but if the final was higher then test average that would become your over all grade. ODE is a tough course in general Hope you like series

he is the devil. avoid him if you can. he handwrote notes from the book to present in lecture, and they were incorrect half the time. doesn't teach - reads his notes. has terrible, scary mood swings. why is this guy still here?

Horrible instructor, very friendly, but teaches trivial material and then harshly grades all assignments, which are far more difficult than what he teaches. Very rarely gives partial credit.

I did learn from Prof. Noren, however, his tests were incredibly hard. He does not provide study guides, so you have no idea what to study. Starts the semester saying most will not pass his class. Pros: he works through many examples and covers the fine details of how to solve problems. He doesn't assume you have prior knowledge on how to solve.

WORST CLASS EVER!! I think he's a nice guy, but a god aweful teacher. I'm a math major and i got a D and therefore have to retake it. His online notes are barely legible and he doesnt use a lot of examples. also, the texbook we used was HORRIBLE! The whole class was based on 3 tests, each of which had only 5 or 6 questions. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!

seems to care about his students, but at the same time he (1) gets angry and rude over silly things (2) acts like everyone else should care about analysis as much as him (3) gives out poorly written, erroneous notes that are hard to read (4) won't hesitate to give you a zero when you at least deserve partial credit (5) covers useless material

He does not speak loud at all. He does not teach math. He teaches you how to read the book. All of his notes are handwritten and mostly exact copy of what the book says. Even so,he is a very understanding teacher and attendence is not mandatory.

I loved taking ODEs with Dr. Noren. He's such a great guy and is a great teacher! He's also an awesome guy to just go and talk to. I had kidney stones at the end of the semester and he fully understood and let me take the final whenever I was ready after the semester was over.

70% of the grade came from HW assignments, other 30% from final. He's often available in his office and is extremely helpful. Cares a ton about students. He's a little quirky, some people will like that about him others won't, but he really is a great person. Very clear and thorough in his teaching.

The material was realitivly easy to comprehend...if you read the book because he is a horrible teacher. he's constantly rude to students and if you leave early (even by 2 minutes) he throws a fit and follows you outside of the class. if you ask him a question he just goes over what he just did and doesnt answer it. switch out of his class seriously

Mr. Noren is a wonderful instructor who takes his time and makes sure everyone understands the concept before he moves on. He's very nice and easy to talk to. He wants his students to learn and succeed and that is the goal he works toward. He's fantastic and I wish everyone could be lucky enough to take at least one class from him!

Richard Noren is such a great teacher! He cares so much about his students. He will go out of his way to make sure you understand anything you have a problem with. If you have any problems he is HAPPY to help you! A lot of students were mean to him but he's so sweet! If you do the exam reviews you'll be set for the tests!
