Pros: Homework is very straight forward until the end Very helpful person, go to his office hours with questions you will learn so much more than lecture Very knowledgeable Cons: Curve ball exams with barely any curve Homework doesn't really prepare you for the exams TL;DL: learned a lot, didn't do so well at the end

311 is much harder with him than other professors but he has a thick curve. Great guy to talk to and get to know. Lectures are clear and accessible. Homework is reasonable. Exams are hard but fair. A bit on the older side but his mind is sharp!

Be careful of who you choose in higher level mathematics course. He is famous , yes. But he doesn't prepare you for midterm. I took 311 with him last year. Most of people get below 60 in the midterms. He is also a tough grader. He will pick out the smallest mistake you have in the proof and then take points off until you get a 0.

The best math professor that I have had a Rutgers so far. He explains everything in a clear, concise manner. It is a difficult course, however, so be prepared to work hard to do well. He is an older gentleman, but that only adds to his charm, and does not subtract from his intellect.

Quite honestly one of the best professors Rutgers has to offer. He conveys the material extremely well and his grading is very fair in my opinion. Just make sure you GO TO CLASS ALL THE TIME and take notes. Also a pretty cool guy.

Very helpful. He teaches well but it's a lot of material and the exams are very fair. Gives a good idea of what's to be expected on exams ahead of time. If you attend class and pay attention, it's not hard to do well. However, he does teach a lot more than is required (he goes over theorems and postulates even though he never tests on them).

For a Math/Science Professor in general, Dr. Wheeden is an extremely patient teacher. He will literally spend extra time to make sure that you understand the material through one-on-one guidance. Furthermore, his humble personality makes it possible for any motivated student to approach him with ease, even those who struggles with the materials.

Loosely follow the book. Did a lot of limit proofs that normally are covered in advanced calc. Midterms were 6-7 questions, and HARD (but mostly due to time). He was very clear in his proofs during lecture, if you take good notes you'll barely need the book. I'm very happy I got him as a professor, definitely one of the best at Rutgers.

Very good professor. He teaches very tough courses, but will try very hard to make sure you understand concepts, especially if you go to his office for help. And he has a lot of office hours

Probably my favorite professor thus far. He is very encouraging and seems to be always willing to spend as much time as necessary in his office to help. You can hardly tell he is nearly 70 years old, either. His mind is as sharp as an arrow. My advice: study hard and ask for help the moment you get lost- it will make the rest of the course smoother

PROS: Excellent, understanding, approachable, and extremely helpful professor. I got a C+ for my final grade, but that's because I got a D on the first test. Advanced Calc is hard, but Wheeden lectures with utmost clarity and logic. CON: No formula sheet during exams, so memorizing formulas the night before an exam might give you a D after a curve.

Took 2 semesters of advanced calculus from him in 1984 (yes, 1984). These classes are always hard - it is the nature of the material. It would be hard to find a better professor. Worked for me - I'm now a professor at Cornell.

in retrospect, he wasn't a good teacher. winged the workshops, exams hard, minimal curving. it's very easy to get lost in this class. i'd recommend living under a rock and devoting 4 months just to his course.

This class was indeed VERY hard. Dr. Wheeden was excellent; clear, helpful and concise. I personally felt that the exams were very difficult, especially the final. Also we CONSTANTLY had some assignment to turn in, which was very stressful. I took a lot away from the course but it was just so hard to comprehend certain concepts.

Explains things clearly, gives thorough notes. His exams demand a true understanding of concepts. I worked my butt off and I'll probably only get a C, but that's just me. He's a really good professor. Really wants us to see what's going on, willing to help in office hours.
