Once he said to me, please don't use your grammar to insult me. (I am an international student.) Can you image how depressed I was at that time???

Professor Williams is great one-on-one but I did not enjoy his teaching methods. He knows a lot of stuff but made Contemporary Social Theory even more dry for me. Class had 5 papers, each of which was 12 points. His grading methods are very anxiety provoking . Seemed as if most students were more likely to get further from an A with each paper.

Ive never hated a professor so much. He rambles on in class & when I mention things he talkd about in class in my assignments he considers it inaccurate. But thats what u said in class! Tough grader & makes contradictory comments in hw. He isnt clear & favors students.

He grades his class in a way as such that he starts off your grade will a 100, and every essay in which you don't get a perfect score he deducts from your 100. Meaning every assignment you do is detrimental to your grade. He is boring, unclear and sarcastic.

I got a B. One of the most boring, flat, un energetic professors I ever took at Rutgers. If you want to dread going to class take this guy. If you want to give a final presentation in front of the class, take this guy. I took this class 2 years ago and I don't remember a thing I learned..credit to the professor. clapclap

The class talks about essentially the same thing for the whole semester and is very boring. Beyond that it's pretty easy, no exams just a couple of small papers and online blog posts, however you have to spend a semester with Williams. Many of his theories are not sound and when students attempt to question his theories, he gets very defensive

Great professor and very interseting class. I didn't do any of the readings; I just went to class and participated and took notes. No exams, just short papers. Easy to get an A if your interseted in the material.

4-5 essays + responses to readings + participation. Easy B, but I shouldve gotten an A. When I talked about my grade on an essay he said "whats 2 points?", when it was out of 12! He only gave 4 days (wouldnt tell us the ? or length) for the 1st essay. Listened when the whole class got angry, so gave 7 days for future ones. Agree with comment below.

Prof Williams is a nice person but a horrible teacher. He demanded posts to sakai for everyclass on 2 or 3 readings at a time. he didnt want long posts but he gave me a c+ in the course becuase i didnt participate and my posts werent long enough even though i did wonderful on the bigger part of the course which were the essays. i dont reccomnd him!

Prof. Williams really wants students to understand the course content. There are 5 take home essays, which total 60% of your grade. In an effort to reduce student stress, he makes participation a large part of the grade. If you have an interest in Sociology and show up to class, you will do fine.

He changed the outline and the grading because a lot of people bombed the first exam. Take home midterm and final. Not easy. If you put in the effort you will do fine. The lowest grade you can receive is a C under the contract. Every week must submit questions or comments which is a grade booster if you hand them all in. Attendance required.

I wouldn't recommend him. He changed the way he grades and now you have to type up a discussion question for every lecture. The take home midterm/final are VERY time consuming. Getting an A is nearly impossible. This was the most aggravating class I have ever taken at Rutgers. I ended up with a C and I put in so much time and effort.

Class was extremely easy but Williams lectures are awful. Rambles on forever about nothing-very unorganized and unclear. I love sociology but I couldnt pay attention to 85% of lectures. takes attendence (otherwise i wouldnt have gone). you can only miss 1 class all semester but he missed 3. punishes lateness but he is always late. hated this class.

Very nice guy, but this class was pretty hard. All the exams are essay exams, although the final was a take home essay. Don't be fooled by that - it SUCKED. I got a B+, went to every class, took notes, did the readings... so it wasn't easy. The material wasn't that interesting & he does group work alot, but the videos he showed were pretty cool.

This class was a joke. He stresses participation but I literally never participated in class and i still ended up with an A in the class. Go to class and have a decent grip on the material and you will do fine on the exams. My TA was really helpful as well.

class required minimal reading, particularly for a 4 credit class. He basically let us make up our own questions for the final. Class was pretty easy, and him and the TA were very helpfull

This professor is serious and generous. His first exam during the early part of the semester, 10pts, was for giving us feedback on our writing and our understanding of the material. If you handed in the exam you got the 10 pts and comments, can't beat that.
