He's dull. His textbook is tough. Definitely caffeinate beforehand. This is the class where the dedicated students really get ahead because its easy to daydream or surf the web during the lectures, try to resist that temptation.

Comment:
Yes, Professor Wright is tough. And Professor Wright is exceptionally bright. Were professors like him not what you expected in law school? If not, then sure, don't take him. But I learned so much and he made me think in layers rather than just asking black-and-white, predictable questions. That's how law works, after all.

Simply put, he can not teach. I studied the hardest for his class last semester and I got my worst grade in torts. My grade in torts is literally three steps below my next lowest grade. His test was the most subjective of my three exams, and his teaching was the least effective. My GPA was seriously harmed because of his teaching and grading.

He clearly knows what he is talking about and is brilliant in the torts world. However, he has trouble explaining concepts to 1L's. He is heavy on theory and continues lecture on it even though it is not on the exam. While the reviewer below said he made strides in bar prep, I beg to differ. He did address what to expect on the bar, but that's it.

I read the comments here before taking his Torts class and started with a negative attitude. However, the two main complaints on here no longer apply, one was that he was more concerned with the 3rd restatement than class, and the other that he doesn't prep you for the Bar. He made strides this semester to fix those problems of the past.

Professor Wright is an excellent instructor--passionate about his subject, knowledgeable, and approachable. To do well in his class, read the notes in his casebook, do the hypotheticals, look at practice exams and read his articles. He developed a NESS test of causation, and causation seems to be one of his research interests.

First, he is smart and knows torts. HOWEVER, he teaches them the way HE THINKS they should be taught not how they are actually taught. i.e. the way they will be presented to you on the exam. We had a guest lecturer ask us the elements of negligence and we knew NONE of them because Richie Wright doesn't like it that way. Just prepare to relearn it.

do not bother reading. look up case summaries to get you through class. get someones outline and just start studying fromt the beginning. do the practice tests. thats all that matters.

Clearly a brilliant man, but an absolutely horrible teacher. Incomprehensible, sleep-inducing lectures and largely incomprehensible writing style (he wrote the book). If you get stuck with him, read to the best of your ability, use the TA, and do the practice exams. The subject isn't that hard, but Wright makes it worse. Relearn Torts for the Bar.

Starts out dry and kinda intimidating. After a while he starts opening up and is actually funny. HIs text book is pretty dense and heavy on his philosophy. If you pay attention to his "notes" after the cases, and do his practice exams. it's not too difficult to be prepare for his exam. Will have to study Torts all over for the Bar.

If your class can get him to open up, he is pretty funny. He has his own "book" which he has been writing for 20 years, so the class is different. MANDATORY attendance. He talks at the class rather than discussing or grilling people. I thought he was a good prof and enjoyed the class, though others disliked it.

Comment:
He should be teaching theory only, he's so busy working on the Restatement that he doesn't bother to teach the actual law. Hinders his students with inaccurate law you will have to relearn Torts to make it through law school. He teaches all of Intentional Torts how he wants it to be, not how it is. You will have to relearn both theory and law.

Professor Wright is an absolutely awesome professor! Those who complain simply want black letter law and that is not what torts is. He is extremely helpful with any questions you have and will spend an unlimited amount of time with you! He was my favorite professor during my first year. He has an awesome sense of humor and is all around great!

Class is difficult to follow but it all comes together in the end. Prof Wright is brilliant and extremely helpful. His case book is also very helpful. He takes attendance seriously and he requires a practice exam to be submitted. THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL PART OF THE ENTIRE CLASS SO PAY ATTENTION!

This man is brilliant, but does not teach the law as it is practiced. Other professors in classes will say something about a legal theory in torts and is shocked when no one knows what he is talking about. We are screwed.

Professor Wright is very approachable and helpful. He is ready to help you when asked and will make sure you understand the subject. I had heard his course was extremely tough before it began but it wasn't. While he does teach in an unorthadox manner, his classes are interesting and well organized. I enjoyed his class and would take him again.

Worst Prof I have EVER had... anywhere. Learned nothing. He talks down to students and I don't think I will ever use what he "taught" me.
