Comment:
If strong in bio, class is an A. Discussion sect. requires effort. Textbook pointless, gives lecture notes pdf you should use as textbook along w/ slides. Practice exams crucial, can rip questions directly from it. Can afford to miss a class. Study lecture notes given + slides + practice exams cakewalk. Lectures long & dull, guilty of sleeping lol

Professor Zitomer is a gem! He is a really tough grader, but Genetics is a tough subject. I made a 22 page study guide and got an A on my final. If you really pay attention in his class, take good notes, memorize everything, you will do well. Love Zitomer and his jokes! Love Love Love! Zitomer is BAE!

Know the slides. That's it. Know the name of the disease, what gene(s) are involved, how does it work, stuff like that. You don't need to know that this disease occurs 1 in X amount of the population. Use the previous year's tests to study, don't expect any of the same questions. For the final, use the semester's tests to help study.

I went into this class last semester as a 4.0 student and barely managed to scrape by with a B-. Zitomer is a really nice guy, but you won't learn anything unless you're an auditory learner (which I'm not). Memorize his class notes and try as hard as you can to pay attention in class. The curve is insane - use it to your favor.

The old tests are not sufficient enough to pass this class. His slides aren't helpful either. Print and read his notes! The textbook is not necessary.

Very hard class but made up by fair short answer tests (3 total). Boring as usual guy. Have to really study cause you don't know what he could ask on the test (which is not bad and fair)--makes it really stressful. 85 is an A but syllabus said 90 not sure if he was being lenient. Book can be found online!!

I found that studying the topics which were in both the lecture as well the detailed lecture notes was most effective. The book is useless. He doesn't expend much effort to clarify things in lecture so individual effort is a must. While the tests will probably murder most people, the curve is insane so the class is pretty reasonable overall.

The past 3 years all his practice exams were the same.. For the fall of 2014, he made sure to switch up the exams for EACH one. Everyone got screwed over for each exam. Never went to class because it was so boring. Only knew what I was doing because of discussion and carss review session. Nice curve. But only if you do well. But he's a nice guy.

An A is 80 and above and then he blocks the lowest test grade. Don't let that fool you, though. You have to go to class and do the work. He doesn't work that closely with the book, but you need to know what's going on for the discussion class. Nice guy, though. Go to office hours for help and he will.

Don't buy the book. Study slides 2 or more times before test (about 7 - 11 hours ) and practice old tests. 85 and above equals A. 10% of grade is 7 quizzes with 2 dropped. If you did good in 212, really no reason to do bad here.

Great professor. Never went to class but I got an A. Just get a hold of his old tests, he recycles questions. Reading the class notes (although quite lengthy) is very helpful for some of the questions he didn't reuse. Get to know him, awesome letter of recommendation.

He's a great guy and is quite funny. Genetics is super hard, as are his tests. This is made up for by a pretty relaxed grading policy (80+ is an A). My advice would be to read the class notes (not slides) online and to do the practice exams, which he uploads plenty of.

Dr. Zitomer is a great professor overall and genetics, mind you, is not an easy subject. With that in mind, he makes it easier for students to retain information and study by posting notes online, along with old exams. He's nice about answering questions, and really helpful if you go to him.

Only reason I got a B is because its a 65 average due to curve, this class is stressful and beyond hard, do not need to use textbook, rely solely on using old tests.. big help for tests, reuses questions. Such a boring lecturer wanted to sleep every single time.. may the curve be in your favor.
