Professor Holt is arguably the most accomplished professor at this school. He is a little quirky, but he has every right to be. Be quite, listen, ask questions, go to his office, and READ... THE... BOOK. Also, don't touch your cellphone. Treat him as a "professor" not a friend, and you'll be okay.

Not the worst professor I've had, but certainly not the best I've had either. I write in cursive, and he said my handwriting was impossible to read. Also, that was the term I discovered I had arthritis in my right wrist and but we had to write everything in the group projects out. I will never take another class from him.

Excellent professor though he expects his pupils to actually work. You will get out of him what you put into his class, and nothing more.

While he is a good professor, I am currently taking his class and take one issue with him. If you are going to take the class----you CAN'T write in cursive, he will call it unacceptable and illegible.

Holt's "problem" is that he's so well versed in Econ he can't recall what it was like to be naive. His odd demeanor when a student asks for an explanation may be his attempt at trying to gain their perspective. He's an author and it's highly evident that teaching is just a "gig". If you major in Econ he is unavoidable. HINT: READ AND TAKE NOTES!

Comment:
Walks out of class almost every session after his lectures, no homework, his quizzes are tricky because of the wording. The part i didn't like about him was his attitude towards us, he is unwilling to explain materials unless the whole class doesn't understand it, which in my opinion, is a waste of time. also very rude and awkward

Comment:
He obviously has a great mind for economics, but it's also obvious that he doesn't really care too much about teaching. His class is very cut and dry, but if you do the assignments and study like he tells you there's no reason you should get less than a B. As far as his personality goes, it' s apparent he lived it up a little too much in the 70s.

I am an international student and I got an "A" in his class. I think he can be very helpful. I visit every time in his office time. He explains very well in the fundamental microeconomics class. I think finding a study partner really helpful. I found a great friend in this class to help my English really appreciated.

He has a funny sense of humor and likes to pick on people but he knows what he is talking about and isn't that bad as long as you don't take his jokes too seriously. It definitely takes time to warm up to him. Be prepared to work for your grade but none of the concepts are too hard to understand as long as you read and listen to the lecture.

Professor Holt is great; he explains everything in a straight forward manner and expects students to pay attention and absorb. It's not his job to hand hold you through it, you have to put effort into your own education. If you're a good student, you won't have any trouble with Holt. He's very smart and REALLY know's what he's doing.

This worst professor I have ever had. Rude, patronizing, unhelpful, harsh, unfriendly, just to name a few. Despite his best efforts I did well in the class, only because I studied hard. I worked even harder in this class because I disliked him so much, I did not want him to have the satisfaction of giving me a low grade. I recommend avoiding him.

Ric has the capacity to be a great teacher - he just grades too harshly on technicalities. I've never heard of anyone getting an "A" in his class.. I appreciated how clearly he could explain concepts and ideas, probably the best professor at SOU in the clarity category. He's just lacking flexibility and could ruin your GPA.

Was an awful teacher when he showed up to class. He was famous for showing up, handing out some busywork assignments, and leaving to never be seen again. This even occurred during the midterm and final exams for my class. Holt's actions are currently even being used as a case against tenure at the university.
