He is a great person. The average grade is not too high, but if he sees that you work hard, he will work with you. I also had him as advisor, and I wouldn't ask for a better advisor. He will help you as much as he can, and be ready to have a great personal conversation. I love his sense of humor and personality!!

As a student that tries to get A's in all my classes, I would not recommend this teacher. He was probably a great professor back in the day but he needs to retire. He does just one problem the entire class period and explains it in such a difficult way. Theres just a couple of kids in my class (the ppl who didnt drop it) are failing or on the edge.

A genuine man who wants to see his students succeed. Lectures are sometimes tough to follow but pretty much covers the material of the text in simpler terms. If youre struggling hes really understanding and easy to talk to

Mr . Kanan is a good man. He gave students all of the options. he doesn't want anybody fails his class. It is true that he do the only one problem entire 75 minutes class but if students have any problem he never walks out. He tried to do his best.

He doesn't really teach things that are too relevant to the homework due that day. He just does 1 problem for the entire 75 mins, instead of really teaching fundamental concepts. He's a really nice man, though, and isn't aiming to screw students over. He's hard to follow sometimes, but he's not a professor that likes to watch students fail.

Lectures are very hard to follow. He doesn't teach the material, he just does a problem along with the class on the board. He does give the opportunity for extra credit and he will work with you in order to help you pass the class. Would not recommend if you need to know how to do accounting for your major/career

This class was difficult and the professor wasnt too helpful. he spoke very low for the majority of the time, writes very small and you can barely see what he writes. He does however have a nice personality but its still dificult to understand him. Be prepared for WILEYPLUS because the assignments are VERY time consuming.

Great guy, long past due though. His teaching methods are horrible and it most definitely doesn't help that he is incredibly old AND has Parkinson's Disease. It affects the clarity of his lectures and also his handwriting. His way of teaching accounting does not help with the homework or tests. Take anyone else but Rief Kanan.

Horrifying experience. He doesn't give out notes, or make any for the class to take down. He uses the exercises from Wiley, does one or two in class, and by the time he gets through them, the class is over & you have no idea how to do the wiley assignment. I had a tutor for the entire semester and still didn't do well due to the final exam.

I took financial accounting with him. I think he is to old to be a teacher. He knows his material very well, but sks at teaching. how is he going to fail 34 of the class. and the lowest grade was a 2. i consider myself lucky to pass his class with a c . I feel really bad for the rest of the class tho.

Took him in the summer. Do the HW and study. Tests are 5/6 word problems with a blank page, not multiple choice. Usually get a bonus question or two though. I don't think he cares about attendance. It's up to you to pass.

Terrible teacher. One of the worst i've ever had. Abbreviates everything thinking you know what he means when you don't. Gives no partial credit on tests. Doesn't explain anything well enough. If you need to take Managerial, you are making a mistake taking it with Kanan.

It takes a little while to get used to his teaching style because he abbreviates, writes really small, and has very bad handwriting. But he knows and will tell you anything he wrote if you ask. He gives you the exam questions before the exam, so definitely study those! He's a sweet professor, definitely take him.

I really loved going to Kanan's managerial accounting class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss a day, you'll regret it. Accounting is a difficult subject but Prof Kanan helps you by putting complex textbook jargon into lay terms. As mentioned below, he also gives you real-world advice. "Good accounting isn't always good business." Recmnd!

Prof Kanan has a great sense of humor, is very well versed in accounting, and is extremely generous with partial credit on exams. He reinforces the common sense approach to accounting so you don't have to memorize formulas all the time. There are abundant opportunities for extra credit, so if you put in the effort, you'll do well. Highly recommend!

I've had him for Int. Acct. II and auditing. He is a very nice man but if you prefer a structured tangent free class you will find his class very painful. Intermediate wasn't that bad but half the time in auditing I didn't even know what chapter we were covering.

His teaching methods are the absolute worst! Abbreviates everythng, doesnt't explain things step by step. Not helpful either; i go to know his TA more than him. Tests are BEYOND difficult. GPA killer; I had to withdraw.

The tests are like the problems you do in class, and he's good about partial credit if you get numbers wrong but displayed that you understood the concept. Also a great guy to talk to outside of class.
