Cote is a good prof, very enthusiastic and helpful. Classes are heavy with material but she guides you very clearly. She's BIG on participation and attendance. There is an exam, a video, and a composition due every unit, but it is manageable. Overall, if you put in the effort the class won't be difficult and you'll actually learn very well.

Professor Cote is a peerless language instructor. She brings such joy to the study of Italian -- with her tremendous energy, sunny personality and positive disposition. Her teaching is thorough and precise. I loved every minute of the course, and you leave class each day in love with the language.

Prof. Cote is the sweetest woman, I love going to class. She is always so encouraging, positive and energetic. Classes are entirely in Italian but she is very clear and understandable. Not too much hw and tests are relatively easy. Participation is a must, but as long as you are active in class you will be fine. She is also very understanding.

She is AMAZING. Really nice lady and a great professor. Must-take! Participate in class and do homework and you should do fine. She is there for you and really cares for students. It's easy to get A-, but for an A you have to stand out.

Sitting through this class, it is obvious that Cote treats students that she dislikes very unfairly, which is reflected in the grades you receive. Considered going to the Dean about her treatment of students.

Rita Cote is the best Italian professor I've ever had at BU. She kept our class fun and engaging and I never felt like I was wasting my time. Over the course of the semester my class got really close and we all left as really good friends - she was responsible for that, I think. TAKE HER CLASS. You learn a lot, and walk away a better person!

This woman is incredibly nice, like all of the other Italian teachers at BU. She is very helpful. But be warned: Class participation is a must. Instructions are mostly in Italian and there is an oral presentation at the end.

She definitely shows preference to certain students. She's big on participation too, so basically you just have to ask random questions and answer questions, even if the answers aren't correct. She's not hard, but she doesn't offer grading rubrics so you have no idea what she wants/prefers.

Anyone who has given Prof. Cote' a low rating is lazy or inept. She is a WONDERFUL professor and great resource as a native speaker; she's very articulate and really strives to make sure all students understand each concept she teaches. Go to class, do your homework, and go to her office hours. The best way to learn a language is to PRACTICE!

Far too energetic for 10am. She will quiz you on things that you have not gone over in class. Assigns HW every night. Every Friday there is either a quiz or translation due. She is a tough grader and her assignments are very random. Quizzes are on miniscule details that are simply impossible to remember from the stories.

Cote was my most challenging Italian professor so far, but I did the best in her class. She couldn't be much nicer, and as long as you try she's happy- even if what you say makes no sense. Participate and she's happy and her tests are easy to do well on.

Cote is very sweet; she laughs all the time. Definitely read ahead in the book and stay on top of things--it's very easy to fall behind. It's helpful if you know some Spanish, because the class is conducted mainly in Italian. I don't think she picks on people, but she is obviously unhappy when it's clear you haven't studied.

She goes on and on about class participation. Attendence is taken, tests are not too bad. You really have to do all your work. She isn't that approachable...if you arent good at ilatian she is not at all simpathetic. She has a tendency to talk down to you. If you have another class durring her office hours good luck she'd meet me at 8 AM only!

Had Cote for 1st, 3rd, and 4th sem Italian. All Italian profs are NOT created equal. She has a much better grasp of English than others -this is KEY! You can almost always finish her tests early. Much clearer than 2 other profs I dealt with & better teaching methods. I won't bother saying you should study (isn't that a given?!) & PARTICIPATE!

She is very organized and helpful. Her tests are not as "short" and "easy" as she believes. As far as choosing a professor for Italian, I think they are all about the same. Your grade is based on your ability to understand. No one is easy- no one is hard.

I was surprised at my final grade (got a B, expected an A) but could probably chalk it up to not studying enough on my part (whoops!) Make sure you do all the readings and the homework, and studying is a MUST! Other than that, she's extremely helpful and friendly, and I actually enjoyed the class... I feel like I learned a lot - recommended!

I had her for 1st sem Italian and she was great! For 2nd semester I wasn't so lucky. Those who rate her poorly for only speaking Italian should know that that is standard for 3rd semester classes. She's very structured, very clear, has a better grasp of English that other prof's here, but you definitely have to study (and isn't that the point?)
