Old school and as good as they get. Traditional in his own way and a master of the material. As good a man as he was a scholar, and he was a giant in his field. Appreciated those who could come back at him provided they knew their stuff. It was an honor to know Fr. Bireley. May the earth rest lightly on him.

Bireley knows everything about the subject (search him on Amazon, trust me.) But he is very old, and teaches classically. If you do not read, prepare for disdain and being talked down to. He teaches the material well, but his courses are not for those looking to skate by.

Very old school, but knows A TON. He is very helpful if you approach him on a personal level, but his lectures are very boring. He doesn't take attendance and he posts what is on quizzes and tests, so if you don't show up (like me), you can still pass and do well if you have the initiative. Do not take his 8:30 class if possible though. It's killer

I found this class to be easy. It helps if you pay attention in class and do the readings (he randomly calls on students to answer questions on the readings) . He drops the lowest quiz grade and is an easy grader. However he is boring, i found it pretty difficult to stay awake sometimes.

Old School and has really funny stories. He posts important terms on Blackboard before each quiz so even if you miss you can pass easily. He's fun to listen to. Not to mention, he's one of the top 15 world experts on the Protestant Reformation.

Very old school, intelligent. I am a history major and found it difficult to pay attention during this class. Lectures with no visual aid in a confusing manner (inconsistent dates, arbitrary displays of his knowledge). Aside from the course being painfully dull, the way the class is set up is helpful in obtaining a good grade if you pay attention.

By far the hardest class I took this semester! He's impossible to understand and even though I've gone to every class and read everything I'm still only pulling a B-. Readings are dry, boring, and very long and his lectures make no sense. Tests are on things that have only been mentioned briefly!

You must go to class to understand key terms -- posted on BB -- and read everything. Chooses students randomly for participation. Very boring lectures. Easy tests if you read and study key terms. Very nice person.

Fr. Bireley is a nice guy but his lectures are a little boring. Covers a lot of material so it helps to take good notes. Posts important terms and dates on Blackboard. Goes over reading assignments in class but it helps to actually read so you can answer intelligently if he calls on you. If he actually learns your name, expect to be called on often

Extremely Boring. No homework or quizes, 2 tests, 2 papers, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Hard grader. A few different books. Tests are okay but you need to take meticulous notes and do all of the reading. Augustine's Confessions, Socrates, Aristotle, ect.

This teacher is hard. I work my hardest and actually read in this class and he doesn't give any feed back on papers at all. I've had an A in AP english for two years and he still doesn't like my writing. He either likes you or he doesn't.

Man... this guy is awfully boring. However, he is quite easy if you show up to class. Readings are not required because he goes over them thoroughly in his lectures. Readings, terms , and essay test 3x a semester. His two papers are a huge part of your grade, but if you can write with skills above a 12 year old you should be good. Easy B+/A-

The man is very old school in his teaching methods, but he's good. You write two papers and there are two tests, grades kinda hard on the 1st essay. Tests are really easy as long as you are not completely comatose through class. Oh, ps don't sit in front b/c he tends to yell when lecturing. Would highly reccomend for entry level history class!

A nice guy, hard grader and hardcore on grammar, lots of difficult reading, loves the middle ages, lots of writing, very dry class, tends to become boring, i only recommend this class and this teacher to history majors. this is not an easy class or teacher, stay far away if this isnot your passion, cause your GPA will not benefit from taking it.

Western civ is very intersting. He can get a little dull, and definetly teaches like a priest would teach western civ, very pro catholic. However, his readings he chooses are very interesting, and he is very clear. Fair (actually really easy) grader and wonderful, nice, jolly, caring...priest. I recommend him if you can handle his catholocism
