D'Amico makes difficult texts accessible. This class was thought-provoking and rewarding. The TAs are engaging and always willing to help you with your papers. D'Amico posts all his powerpoints online and the essays are straightforward. D'Amico himself is also super friendly and attempts to learn the names of all the kids that participate in class.

Definitely a good choice for humanities credit or for word requirements. Only assignments are 4 1000-word essays, which are 90% of your grade. Other 10% is attendance. The essays are sometimes tedious, but Dr. D'Amico uploads all his powerpoints online and they're all you need to write a good essay. Overall great professor and relatively easy class

I had him for Intro to Philosophy as well as for Philosophy of Social Science, and he was excellent both times. He can explain philosophy in layman's terms like no one I've ever seen. Almost NO work on a daily basis, but difficulty of the papers depends on your philosophical inclination. Extremely kind man, truly willing to help no matter what.

Comment:
Professor D'Amico made the dense writings we studied in Intro to Philosophy seem easy by translating them into common-sense language for his lectures and powerpoints. He uploaded all his powerpoints online and the information in them is ALL YOU NEED for the four essays your grade is based on. If you struggle with writing, this class is not for you.

Lectures are good but they expand on the required reading rather than synthesize. Read before the lectures and they will be informative and interesting. Don't read and you can get lost in some lectures. Attendance is required (10% of final grade is participation/attendance) but you can have a friend sign you into lectures blocks. Good prof.

Professor D'Amico definitely was a good lecturer and was passionate about philosophy. I am aware that it is a difficult subject to both teach and understand but much of his presentation is repetitive and vague.

Dr. D'Amico is such a well-spoken man. Great at explaining abstract concepts. He brightened my semester with a new appreciation for philosophy. I would definitely recommend him.

Professor D'Amico is amazing! I expected philosophy to be such a hard class and it was honestly easy when you put in the work. This class involves a lot of reading ! The essay topics are kind of tough but they are manageable.

This class (Continental Philosophy) is not for the feint of heart! The topics we read about ranged from consciousness to the philosophy of perception to philosophy of language critiques on metaphysics. The texts were difficult and pretty much any German guy is a brutal writer. I loved this class though! Grade based on 2 assignments (6 essays total)

The topic of the class (Medicine and Philosophy) seemed much more interesting than the class turned out to be. Seemed like the class should have been more discussion based than lecture based. Nonetheless, a good and somewhat helpful professor

D'Amico made the material interesting when the material itself was dry. He answers questions you have in class as well as during office hours. The layout for each paper is the same. GO TO CLASS. His notes are all I needed for the paper..I never ONCE read the actual documents.

Professor D'Amico is very clear about his expectations in the class. Some subjects are rather dry, so unless you are interested in philosophy do not take it as a Gen Ed. The TA's grade all of the papers and those grades make up almost your entire grade for the course. Easy class, if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Comment:
This class can be very confusing if you do not read the actual documents of the philosophers. D'Amico attempts to explain the readings in class and essentially if you take notes you can use those in your essays. He likes to see you outside of class and can be very helpful. My TA was Kaj Falls and although somewhat rough, he is fair and rather easy.

D'Amico is a very nice and helpful prof, but this class is horrendously boring. The title makes it sound interesting, but it is philosophy and requires a deeper level of thinking. The readings are boring, and neither your final grade nor your essay grades are based on any sort of numerical criteria. All grading is subjective, and an A is NOT easy.

This is class is so boring. I thought it would be a fun class for the humanities requirement because the title but..I was wrong. I definitely should have recognized that this was a philosophy class and requires a lot of thought. The readings are almost unbearable because they are boring and hard to understand. The papers are also grading harsh too.

Do NOT take this class for an easy A because you won't get it. You really have to put forth a lot of effort and read and understand ALL of the material before you are tested on it (tested on the material includes take-home essays and in-class tests). Overall, it was a really difficult class, but rather interesting.

D'Amico was a really nice guy. I never went to his class but I always went to his office hours. I always had him read my papers before i turned it in and he was extremely helpful. He'll actually tell you what to change and he'll try to help you out with the topics. it also helps to skim the assigned readings again before tests and papers.

The class is really not hard, he explains stuff really well in the lectures and the TAs are always willing to help. He is a little boring, but it's not hard to get a good grade on the papers and tests as long as you read. There's 4 tests and 4 papers. Take the class if you have an interest in philosophy.

The papers aren't that bad... everyone fails the tests however. Overall hes an average, nice guy. Grades aren't posted online and he doesn't explain how grades are averaged so don't expect to have any idea what your grade is for the entire semester. He randomly takes attendance for a grade- particularly on days that everyone seems to skip.
