Drews is an amazing lecturer. Every class was absolutely fascinating to go to, and I went in with only an average amount of interest. He's a bit of a tough grader, but it's not too hard to do well. The daily readings are 100% necessary; do not skip them; thankfully, they're usually short. Loved the class, I wish I could have another class with him.

Professor is awful. Don't bother talking to him outside of class. He wrote the textbook for the class, and it is very disorganized- no coherent path. Lectures are just as jumbled. Daily quizes help the grade. But class still impossible

Pretty tough class. He is a nice guy, and sometimes funny, although his jokes catch everyone off guard so they don't always laugh. It is very important to read the online textbook for the tests.

I took roman, greek and near east history from drews. He was absolutely one of my favorite teachers. Sure he's hard, but you went to Vanderbilt for a challenge. he also was extremely helpful outside of class, and actually pushed my historical writing to a new level. His tests are hard, and he grades papers hard too, but you will completly satisfied by how smart he is and how smart he makes you when you leave a class.

You will learn a lot, but be prepared for a difficult class. Grades papers tough and his tests are hard. If you are up for a challenge, look no further than Drews.

Makes anti-semitic ahistorical statements like "the pharisees were the secret police of the ancient world" Fine if you are doing early Greece horrible if he is dealing with later history or the Middle East

Drews makes you work for it. Papers are graded pretty harshly. Definitely take him for two classes, by the second one you'll get a sense of what he's looking for better.

Hardest class I've taken at Vandy. Tests focused on totally pointless information, which he then proceeded to grade like he WANTED people to fail.
