The class is very disorganized but the Smoking Notes help a ton. The exams being open note doesn't mean that they are by any means easy. The class is interesting but if you don't need it don't take it. ALSO, WRITE THE PAPER IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Fantastic professor. The class is extremely difficult, and the entire grade relies on exams. Watch all the lectures and read ahead, and you can do relatively well. He promises no trick questions, which I won't way I completely believe, but overall, exams are fairly written and fairly graded. HUGE curves are also a plus.

Just read the LSB AND the Barrons. His grading scale with extra credit is very very generous. Very eccentric, but great at engaging students who want to learn the material. Read each exam question carefully bc usually there is one crucial detail that people miss. Lots of reading, but one solid read through the textbooks should be enough studying.

Emerson is an odd professor since lectures are only him dancing around the place. Don't expect to go to lectures and learn something. Exams are hard, and require extensive hours reading the LSB, and going over scenarios. He is nice, and his TA's are as well. Honestly you teach yourself in this course. Read Read Read!

By far, the best professor I've ever had. The guy is simply born to teach, and he absolutely loves doing it. With that said, it is extremely difficult, so don't expect this open notes, open book class that's graded entirely off exams to be easy. Your likelihood of an A may be relatively low, but it is possible with reading and lectures.

In this class, you have to read there is no escaping it! - Skim the LSB first. Then reread it. You want to read the LSB 2-3 times(sounds crazy but you have to) - Refer to the Barrons for clarification because the LSB can be a bit confusing - Do every single practice question 2-3 times - He curved our exams heavy(1st exam - 13 points; 2nd-17 points)

Emerson is a great and caring teacher. This class is reading heavy, but it's totally do-able. He's a great professor and tries to engage the class. Would definitely take again, super nice guy.

This class is easy in the sense that there is no hw, just study for tests. But this class is hard because the tests are extremely difficult to pass. Emerson does curve the heck out of the tests which is a life saver, and DO THE PAPER because you are almost guaranteed to fail at least one exam. I only used SN and finished with a C. Read LSB for B/A

Get ready to read for this class because if you read the textbook then you should do fine on your exams. There is extra credit it this class which helps. Make sure to do the paper that can replace your lowest test grade which will help with your grade. I cannot stress enough read the textbook and get Smokin Notes for the exam and you should do well

I found it really difficult to do well in the class. He is a nice guy, but his lectures are extremely hard to follow. He tells a lot of stories and dresses up in outfits that do not correlate with the material very well. I had to stop watching lecture because it was a waste of time. The tests are very difficult even though they are open notes.

Amazing professor overall. Goes out of his way to make law as interesting as possible and clearly cares about his students. Emerson is one of those people that you look at and it's just obvious they were born to teach. Watch the lectures (I watched on 1.4x speed mostly), read the texts, and do practice problems and you should be golden.

The way Emerson teaches (using props, skits, etc.) is very unconventional. It might help some students learn better but it just made it hard for me to take the class seriously. I didn't watch lectures but read the books/supplements and got Smokin' Notes. Tests are open-book and open-note which helps. Make sure to tab your books!

Dr. Emerson is not like any other professor. He enjoys the course and uses it to play dress up, yes seriously. His intention is to make the class fun. There are only 3 exams, a term paper replaces your lowest grade and two other papers for extra credit at 1 point each. No homework. Lots to read! If you work hard you will do well.

The worst professor we've had so far in the MBA program. He does not really teach during class and instead dresses up and puts on skits. He is disorganized and does not clearly define his expectations for the course even though he has a 12 page syllabus. When you email him outside of class he does not really answer your questions.

Funniest professor you will ever meet. Made this horrible hard boring class much better. Prepare to read the most you every had in your life. That is what it takes to pass this class. Read that whole LSB. What I did is read all the chapters, highlight important sentences, and then re-read those important sentences every single night until test.

Open book, open note exams but don't let that fool you. Exams are difficult if you don't read the books. DO THE PAPER, it replaces your lowest test score which can really make a difference in your grade. Emerson is a very... eccentric guy. Watched lectures at 2x speed. Stopped watching lectures half way through semester and just read the texts.

OK this class is difficult. If you don't like to read you won't do well. There is so much reading involved- the textbook is crucial! How to study: Read AHEAD, watch lectures only if you have time, DO the practice problems- they are very similar to the questions on the actual exam!! He offers extra credit and an optional term paper

This class has easily been the most beneficial class I have taken at UF so far. The lectures shouldn't be your priority but the "Law, Society, and Business" text is CRUCIAL. This text is actually very interesting and well written (by Emerson). Test tips: 1Read the LSB 2 Make your own detailed index 3 DO THE OLD TEST QUESTIONS 4 Use given index

Emerson is peculiar. He has very theatrical lectures, and you honestly don't need to watch them. Gotta have the books because tests are open book, and I got Smokin Notes and they were fantastic. Just study the smokin notes and use the textbook indexes during the exams and you should be good.

Hate the way he teaches. Props, skits, short movies. Teaching style is not organized and hard to follow. Since he wrote the textbooks, his books are presented the way he teaches, which is scatterbrained. Ugh.
