while he is an incredibly difficult teacher, he does actually care about his students. this is a weedout course, so obviously it's gonna be hard...he makes the quizzes hard so if you study those for the tests you'll do well on exams, which obviosly are more important. one of the nicest teachers i've ever had, and ridiculously smart.

He did try to help, to say the least.. But his efforts were futile in that it never worked.. I should be a chem teacher cause i surely had to teach myself the material.. If you have him, go to other teachers for help!! You might even pass...

He is a really nice guy and helpful when you need it. He really tries to help you understand the material and makes jokes to try and keep you awake. The only thing is that his quizzes are extremely hard and almost impossible, the tests are a lot easier than his quizzes, but still difficult. Just study a lot!!!

This class is hard for it to be a general chemistry class. the qizzes and exams are HARD and have nothing to do with the homework. I did more then the assigned problems and just barley got a B. it is bad when a 53% is the lowest C. I would not take him if you have a choice. VERY HARD CLASS!!!!!

Quizzes and tests are HARD! I forced myself to read the book and did more than the assigned homework problems, but my grade still is terrible. It's pretty sad when you get 65% on an exam and you're actually happy. Everyone I know is praying for a C or D in the class.

Pretty much if you do the homework it won't be helpful on any quizzes because they consist of problems that nobody has ever seen before. Hes a cute old man but not a good professor. If you're not good at teaching yourself, I would recommend a different professor.

I don't like to be mean but he is not a good professor. You're pretty much on your own to learn the material because class time is spent watching him to homework problems in the most obscure and unhelpful way. If you want anything explained, corner him in his office and force him to teach it in a way that you understand.

Dr. Gayheart is a pretty good guy. I only had him for lab but if you didn't understand something, he would always try to explain it to you without giving you the answer. A nice guy.

Nice guy, bad teacher. He doesn't really explain things before he quizzes you,and his quizzes are hard and weekly and don't really resemble any homework or in class examples. He is somewhat condescending towards people who don't understand him. He tends to laugh when you answer his questions incorrectly, and often makes it scary to ask a question.

Dr. Gayhart ALWAYS made time for me when I had trouble understanding the material. It is true he gives the hardest quizzes, but my class always had the best test average out of all the sections. That tells you something about his teaching skills. If you have to survive chem 161, I would suggest taking Dr. Gayhart.

Wow. Do not take this class with him. Quizzes every week are as cumulative as exams. Classtime is spent talking about book problems that don't resemble problems on the weekly quizzes. Exams are the easiest part, as the other teachers make easier questions. No curve, unlike the other profs.

He really can't teach 166. He can't seem to dumb himself down to our level and explain things. The book teaches things better than he does! I don't find him helpful at all and I would not recommend. His quizzes are super hard and will just bring down your grade!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROF! He doesn't explain the material well and he makes very hard quizzes. Quizzes every Tuesday just as hard as tests. Book, online notes, and lectures do NOT help studying for the quizzes. Other teachers are much easier. AVOID!

The subject itself was very hard. Prof. Gayhart though made it a little simpler. Pay attention in class and do homework. Most of the stuff he puts up in blackboard, so even if you dont go to class, you will get the notes for the day.
