He really wants you to learn and gets mad when you don't pay attention or take out your phone, but he talks in circles about history and other things that you don't need to know. No powerpoints or notes or anything. there is no way to pass his tests because he doesn't teach anything.

Professor Helsabeck is an excellent professor who will do whatever he can to help you. He is not afraid to challenge you, but is willing to help you excel and exceed, especially in public speaking. He gave me confidence and allowed me to make significant improvements. Take him if you can. You won't regret it.

Great teacher- Professor Helsabeck presents the art of public speaking in a very interesting manner. You learn how to deliver speeches through class critique. The feedback is very helpful. His class is easy but useful. I recommend very much!

Terrible. Class was supposed to be about opinions but he somehow found a way to try n say our opinions were wrong, or he would just reword what you said to make him be the one to say it. Better to just shut up and listen to his views. Religion was presented too much imho. Guaranteed B, but have to pull a miracle in class and papers to pull an A-.

Nice guy but not such a great teacher. His examples confused the heck out of everyone. He goes off topic way too much and his test are basically based off of his lessons, so if you don't understand his examples your basically screwed. Pretty much just live in your text book and study hard.

as long as you try, you will be ok. its hard to take criticize from him and the class but you get used to it. if there is some planning before your speach and you dont wing it, you will be fine. Its a very relaxed class and you only do work once every 2-3 weeks when you have to give a speech.

God this guy loves this class. He gets so excited about religion. Its fun to watch him go off all over the place talking about lord knows what with a huge smile on his face using all kinds of Virginia slang I've never hear before. Pretty fun for an upper level class. Little more philisophical than I thought though.
