DR HYMES IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. His lectures are so engaging and you can tell he is passionate about social psych. This class is quite simple, all you need to do is attend his lectures and do the assigned readings. His class consists of 3 exams and 1 term paper, which if you put in the right work should be easy. All in all, TAKE IT.

If you want a funny lecture take him but If you want to take an A in this class, do not take him. he is mean and deceiving professor. he will not give you good grade since he make the class from easy to very hard. You have to score above 95 in each the 3 exams.

Comment:

Dr. Hymes is arguably the greatest professor in the psych department. I've taken him twice. His lectures are exciting and he is so knowledgeable and passionate about social psychology. The exams are difficult, but the classes are worth it. Psychology of Prejudice changed my life. Take it if you can!

Dr. Hymes is a very entertaining professor. Be careful when raising your hand, he will put you on the spot. He can be intimidating at times so sometimes its best to just listen to the lecture and take notes. His exams are very tricky especially the multiple choice. Read carefully! Very tough grader on the final paper. Don't let his fun side fool u.

Hymes is cool. He's really funny and that makes class breeze by.. However, his tests are quite difficult. Definition section (easy), Essay section (he tells you before hand but there's ALWAYS a curveball added), Multiple choice (minute details taken from lecture and book that can be easily glossed over if you take bad notes). Proceed with caution

Best decision ever. There are 3 exams (no final) and online discussions. The online discussions are super easy. The exams are straight forward. Besides the week before the exam where i was rereading my notes, i basically did not do anything outside of the class. I would recommend this class 100% plus hes pretty interesting.

Hymes is WAY too over-hyped. Everyone that's taken him acts like he's a god among men, but he's just average. 25% of lecture time is him talking about 2-3 topics and 75% is him telling jokes/personal stories, but you need to go for the minute details. Most of my learning came from the book, which you NEED to get an A. Study guides are useless.

Good lecturer, but highly tough grader. Students prepare all their best, but at the end, the majority falls C to B. His test is so tricky. Sometimes what he teaches diverges from the textbook which he assign to read. Be careful for term paper. You won't be given any feedback from him, but graded in the end. Overall, I suggest not to take his class.

Dr. Hymes was awesome! There were 3 exams and one paper. He made lecture very interesting and humorous. His "grumpiness" was one of the things that made him hilarious. He is very passionate about the subject that he teaches, and he is very clear in what he expects. You also need to read the book! I would've done better if I had!

This is the second time I took Hymes and I am glad I did. His classes are really interesting. I took him for a 3 hour block in the summer and the class flew by everyday. There are 3 exams and one extra credit paper. I wish he taught more classes at UMD. Recommend!

Words cannot even describe the amount of respect&admiration I have for Dr. Hymes. Not only is he without a doubt the greatest lecturer at UofM-D. He is a genuinely great person. His classes are so fun and interesting,and he really grasps your attention during lecture. He gives a study guide for his exams- use it. He really cares about his students.

Dr. Hymes is a great professor! His lectures were super interesting and enjoyable. As long as you have the class notes and do everything on the review guides, most likely you'll get a B+ to an A on his exams! There was one paper, but it was easy and fun to write. You don't have to attend his lectures, but they prepare you VERY well for his exams.

Wonderful prof. Gives review sheets for all 3 exams. Non-cumulative final. You will learn a lot. Great lectures, 1 paper which is 8 pages but easy to do. Very helpful, loves teaching. Exams are easy is you know the vocab, read the text somewhat and prepare for the essay question which he gives in advance. Will take him again.

I haven't even gotten my grade in this class but let me tell you.. GREAT PROFESSOR! You absolutely have to show up and take notes because his exams are 70% lecture and 30% textbook. Good thing is, class is never boring and the man has a great sense of humor. Plus, participating is actually fun. No, its not an easy A but we're in college people.

One of the best instructors I've ever had. He makes the material very enjoyable and has a way of teaching that makes key points stick in your mind so you don't easily forget. I can't say enough good things about prof. Hymes. Just show up and study for the exams. Also gives 2 extra credit opportunities, one of which is huge. B+ becomes A- if done.
