Great prof. He cares and wants you to learn. The class itself was hard in that doing the hw is real helpful (there's not a tooon of it but what you do have is important.) I was surprised by the final because it was pretty hard so if you just came to Class & thought you could get by by just writing down the hw answers, you were in ln to be shocked

No HW; easy midterm on music fundamentals; final is identifying the 6 musical eras by hearing 2 songs back to back & writing a paragraph about the music of that one era, then for a 2nd era, etc, & attendance make up the grade for class. Mr. Lawson is a great music teacher. Knows what he talks about, & as head of music dept, is devoted to keeping music program alive at VC. Laid back class; is very patient & willing to answer questions. Does want class to participate, but not a big stickler about it. Class appears to be offered only over summer, but good to get arts requirement done

This class is very relaxed. How much you learn depends on how much you want to put into it. You can coast by and miss a lot of classes and you'll prob pass, but you won't learn a lot. But if you want to learn, Bob is extremely patient and willing to help. He is totally dedicated to the music department and has performed miracles to keep it going.

I was probably the only person in this class who WASN'T a music major. I didn't buy the book, whic ended up working pretty well. The tests were TAKE-HOME!! I missed 2 weeks of class and received a "0" on one of the mid-terms, but I still got an "A"! There is a Final Essay you have to write (this is what made my grade)

Prof.Lawson is a pretty good teacher no doubt.But the class was a bit boring.I took the mus 8 during summer and got an A in class.The midterm and final are what count for you grade.Mid/final are not hard if you good at listening,because the major part in both tests are listening.The final is about essay writing,6 essays.Take it if you like music.

I feel I am in good hands with Mr. Lawson. He knows his stuff really well, but he is patient and knows how to teach it too. He's a laid back teacher, but if you want to learn, you really have to make an effort. Ear Training and Theory 1 can be really challenging if you don't already read music/play an instrument. I suggest taking Fundamentals 1
