Cute old man who knows his stuff! He combines lectures with writing on the board which I think is effective with material. Can be a bit dull, but is very clear in explaining material. Three tests are 90% of grade. Tests are easy if you learned material. He doesn't try to trick you, and its usually an easy version of hw problems.

Comment:
The worst grade I have ever received. His lectures are dull and long. He writes everything on the board without explaining. He is hardly accessible and the material is hard. He gave 2 fair midterms and an impossible final where everyone failed. He is a good guy though. I do not recommend taking this class with him.

Unbelievably dull, lectures in monotone, writes everything by hand on the board with terrible handwriting and is difficult to comprehend. Three exams, all equally weighted and hw once a week that you can copy. First two exams were do-able and based on in-class problems, last exam was impossible. Terrible class regardless of teacher, honestly.

Comment:
Very boring. He writes everything on the board while talking in a monotone. He also believes the whole classes has the 'solutions manual' which made him very paranoid and he tries to hunt for kids using it even though they aren't so not much effective feedback is given on hw. Relativity clear and the questions he does in class will be on the test.

He gives you what you need to know straight up with no surprises. You can copy all the hw, but make sure to practice the class problems over and over again. class structure: notes 1 class and then practice probs the next. Make sure to take good notes&read the textbook to answer the multiple choice, only open ended probs are computational

Def not an easy A, but easy to figure out what he'll ask for on tests. Study the class exercises more than the hw. HW questions were often harder than the test questions. Attendance is mandatory in order to receive a good grade.

Great guy, dresses awesome, knows everything, take him if you can. You know exactly what to expect on exams, just make sure you study and know your stuff and you'll do fine. Homework 10% and three exams worth 30% each. Homeworks takes a while but is helpful

He's very organized and articulate; very easy to understand. His appearance is quirky and fun, but he has a pretty serious demeanor imo. He's also very knowledgeable, and I learned a lot from him. Hw's from the textbook. Tests are based off of the textbook problems and notes, so it is very fair.

Perfect balance between good teaching methods and a little challenge. Laycock is a great professor- incredibly articulate as well as accessible for help. The homeworks don't count for much which is frustrating because they take so long. If you work hard in this class, you will succeed, however the opposite is certainly true as well.

Basically the most old school professor ever. He's very intent on you doing the work yourself, but is willing to help if you ask. He lectures on a chapter then does review based on the book, and attendance/attention at both is a must if you want an A. Attendance isn't taken, but it's needed to understand what's going on.

Quite Possibly THE BEST professor ive had GW. I took this class over the Summer and It was great. The professor is clear, straightforward, and explains everything clearly. I would recommend going to class and doing the homework. If you cover those two bases you can slide on the readings and do well. Fall 2011 is his last semester before he goes!

Go to class. Tests can sometimes be tricky, so make you sure you really understand the material. Weekly homeworks are annoying, but are basically what you are tested on. He is really nice and helpful though, go to office hours once and a while and you will do fine.
