This class is doable if you keep up with the reading, but it's really easy to fall behind. Lectures are incredibly boring and mandatory. If you're looking for an easy gen-ed I would stay away, there's reading due every class and it's hard to stay awake during class.

Wonderful professor. His knowledge is unmatched, and his love of literature is infectious. Do the reading (and takes some notes), and you'll be fine. Be prepared to let what he says "ferment" in your mind a bit--he's full of great insights into Victorian novels. One of my favorites.

Dr. Lougy is the literature professor that I had been looking for throughout undergrad. He is smart, passionate, and an extremely good guy. He really cares about the material and teaches in a way that makes you see the point of it all. If you value THINKING and learning, take his class. He is not easy, but very worth it.

Professor is extremely intelligent and nice (as long as you're not a jerk). Work is hard and class is difficult, but it is a 400 level. Def knows what he's talking about.

Lougy is the best professor at Penn State. I had him for three classes and would recommend him to anyone. The person who suggested he is an elitist who wants his own opinions spouted back at him could not be more off base. Lougy asks, and if fact, demands original thinking and would never discourage a well-reasoned opinion

A great teacher, and the way he talks is very cute. He really wants you to talk in class and say what you feel about the novels. A lot of reading, but also a lot of fun! He really cares about the material we learn in the class and it's all based around your opinions.

Just a prince of a guy. I had him for Victorian Novel, and his love for the works (especially ****ens) is contagious. Assigns a lot of reading, but they're novels! Very easy-going, calm, and engaging. Highly, highly recommended.

Mr. Loughy is an elitist. He will ask a question and not wait for someone to answer, will merely answer it himself and basically accuse the class of idiocy. His handwriting is illegible, his speech is sometimes incomprehensible, and I get the impression he merely wants you to repeat HIS opinions back to him for exams and papers. Aviod him.

Robert's a good professor: his lectures are engaging; he has a compendious knowledge of Victorian literature; and, unlike many of the best English professors, he's very level-headed. While it's true that he sends out a lot of e-mails, they generally ask good question and are quite extempore, so there is no sense of burden. I would recommend him.

Great professor... I've taken two of his classes and they've been two of the best classes I've had. His class was always interesting, and he always went out of his way to be as helpful as possible. Definitely recommended if you enjoy reading/discussing literature.

He's a friendly and enthusiastic teacher; however, he is difficult to understand at times. Also, his grading is somewhat vague, not necessarily unfair, just vague.
