Anyone who hates Main either (a) did not pay attention in class; (b) did not put any effort into class; or (c) did not show up to class. Upper level econ is supposed to be hard. Main is one of the best teachers I have ever had; you just have to be willing to put in the effort if you want a good grade.

In my experience, he is really a nice guy and he will do his best to help you out if you ask for it. Sure, his lectures are a little dull and sometimes a bit confusing but they get the point across. The textbook is essential and really helpful. Tests are not too hard -- two exams and a final. Don't get caught using your phone in class.

DO NOT TAKE! Can't read his handwriting, VERY boring, and makes things harder than they have to be. Worst teacher I've had since being here.

I thought this was a very easy class. Come to class prepared, and you are going to get an A. Robert Main is one of the best professors in the world, and he is very entertaining.

Robert Main is by far the worst professor I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. I wouldn't take this class if someone payed me because he is absolutely not helpful, offers no extra credit or make-up work, and his lectures make no absolute sense. He will just tell you "Get a tutor" if you don't do well on a test. DO NOT TAKE.

Professor Main is one of the most monotone, boring, unhelpful professors I have ever taken. All of the homework and lectures do not help on the exams because he makes the exams 3 times harder than everything else that we have gone over. He also doesn't like to help you prepare for the exams, just suggests you see a tutor instead of offering help

I took Micro econ in high school and the teacher I had then was much more interesting and thorough than Dr. Main. He knows what he is talking about, but he is extremely old fashioned in his methods, and often expects you to understand concepts simply by reading the textbook, rather than actually teaching them to you. Not a super tough class though

Take notes and visit him during office hours! Do the review sheets then ask him if it is correct.

He's a nice guy, and helpful if you ask for the help. His class is dry though, and its really easy to space out if you're not consciously trying not to. Every time there was something I missed on one of his tests, I knew I would have gotten it right had I been paying more careful attention!

A nice man, but do not take this course unless you are an expert in economics. He is about a hundred years old and teaching style is really hard to grasp. Not a easy course to take in the first place, and he certainly doesn't make the topic any easier.

He is a nice guy and all, but his class is super hard. Do not take unless you are an expert in economics. Refers to the book all of class and sometimes teaches with it in hand. Your grade is based off of online homework which is super long and tests which are impossible. Too many pages on the test and not enough time. Dont take him.

Is a really nice guy and cares about your learning. Extremely dull and boring, but involves the class as much as possible to make it bearable. He makes it super easy but his tests are really difficult

Honestly, I'm not sure why everyone dislikes him so much. He's a really nice guy and is really helpful as long as you make an effort. He really likes class participation. He uses Aplia, an online assignment software, and that's pretty horrible though. The aplia ssignments took me hours to finish. The tests were long, but not all that hard.

He relies heavily on the text which is good except he does't really answer the questions asked. I studied my tale off and asked a ton of questions and got the answer from the book; he never offered to break down the material into plain language.

Teaches straight out of the book. Communication skills are poor, makes concepts more difficult than needed. Tests are unnecessarily long and hard.

He is a much better professor than most people give him credit for. If you read and do the homework, his explanations in class are really clear and well articulated. Granted he is pretty dry, but he is a quality instructor who really knows economics.

He wears the same 2 plaid shirts everyday. his tests are a good 12-15 pages long (i was in a 50 min. class). he refers to the author- mankiw, ALL of the time. study hard for the tests or you'll bomb the class. aplia assignments online are really important if you want to do well in the class. he's very dry and talks really soft.
