This was the hardest I have ever worked for a grade, period. Office hours are a blessing and he is very responsive to emails. You are expected to really understand the material he teaches but when you finally understand, boy is it rewarding. Don't take all the extra points for granted either, he WILL find a way to catch you off guard.

Again, He will push you harder than Chanel and Rosswell. With that being said, you cannot get away from Discrete Math without studying. I was close to an A; however, I messed up the final and got a B. Mena has great lectures, but it was challenging. He will not give you answers, but will guide you in the right direction. He wants us to learn a lot!

Here is the key. This professor is difficult, which is true; however, you will learn a lot. He will not leak out answers, yet must attend office hours and he will only guide you. He wants all to learn. If you can pass one of Dr. Mena's classes, it will be easier to pass Neal Terrell, Katherine Varela, or other good professors for CECS Courses.

Dr. Mena knows Neal Terrell very well. He knows most topics that are taught in CECS 228 (DeMorgan's). You have to work your ass off to get a passing grade in this class. He does not give answers away, but will push you in the right direction. I wished that I took Dr. Mena before CECS 174. Exams are detail-oriented questions, so STUDY. Learn a lot!!

It's a tough class, not really what I would expect for math history. Lectures are interesting, but homework and quizzes are hard. Would not take this class unless I am require to.

Neal Terrell knows Dr. Mena very well. He knows discrete math and python. Was a sub for Terrell last Spring. His lectures were challenging, learned lot. If he taught another class, I would take him again. Mena gave us challenging assignments. He wants students to learn. Neal's exams were tough. Guides students, but don't give away answers. STUDY!!

He made math hist unnecessary hard. HE IS the ONLY ONE teaches 310 atm, so cant really find any other prof. His homework is very unclear. Quizzes are hard. Everything is just difficult. His lecture isnt that boring, but I hate doing his homework and how he expect all of us to know what he's talking about.

Dr. Mena really cared about everyone's success. We had challenging weekly homework, challenging quizzes, and even more challenging exams. Nothing was ever a surprise, but he really emphasized thinking. I think a good tip is to work with other people to get the homework done, but only after making honest attempts at all the problems yourself.

Dr. Mena is one of the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are amazing, get ready for your mind to be blowing. He makes you think really hard but always there to help you. Quizzes every week but he helps you a lot during the quiz. No text book needed but it's helpful if you print out his notes. Work hard and he'll acknowledge your efforts.

Mena's class is no joke. 355 is hard with any professor. You will need to go to office hours to get an A because his homework is complicated. He helps A LOT and offers a lot of points. One quiz every week, 1 midterm, final. He really wants everyone to pass but knows that there will always be a struggling bunch, but he will help that bunch.

Best professor ever. His lectures were clear enough to follow and his textbook was extremely helpful. His homework makes you think but he prepares you for it. His tests were hard but fair, he is very good with partial points. Go to office hours, he does not give out answers but pushes you towards the right direction. Will definitely take him again.

Mena's history class is amazing. Simple concepts, but you must critically think for the homework he assigns. You will benefit more if you listen in class. You dont really need to take notes because his book is explanatory enough. Definitely recommend and still my favorite professor at CSULB

One word: AMAZING! I was reluctant to take his class especially for such a tough class, but Dr Mena was absolutely wonderful. Abstract algebra is no walk in the park, but he gives you everything you need to do well, it's up to you to do the homework and study and go to office hours with your questions. If you do these things, you will do well.
