Never met anyone like him; he's an oddball (in a funny way). If you're not remotely interested in English in any way, you will NOT enjoy the workload. Take an easier prof. for 1B. If you really want to test/improve your english proficiency, then chance yourself with this guy.

He grades really hard on essays, but dramatically helps you improve on them. Effective teacher with a quirky sense of humor that can sometimes come off as offensive. He challenges the way you think with his views on philosophy and English. Make sure to read before coming to class because there's always a quiz.

Had him for both 1A and 1B. Got an A in both, and learned tons from both. Very few people get 100% on any essay. entire grade based on 7 essays a portfollio and final paper. Very inspring and funny professor, and one of the most interesting people I've ever met, but dont trust all his stories..some sound like bogus. Overall, extremely high quality.

Professor Selinske is such a nice guy. He has a quirky sense of humor. His grading is fair and based on a 9 point scale. An 8 is considered an "A" essay. Follow his format! A lot of philosophy... 2 Group Discussion Assignments. Final was difficult. Did not feel like he prepared us much for that. This was his last semester. =( I'm gonna miss him.

VERY VERY tough on essays. Very few people got an 8 on the essay. He likes to talk a lot about his "amazing" and filling life, which all sound like junk and very unrealistic. ANYWAYS, overall...this teacher did not lecture very well AT ALL, he got off topic ALL THE TIME, and he did not give enough feedback to improve on future essays.

He is a very critical grader. The essays are tough. Despite all that Mr. Selinske sure hits my funny bone (idk about others). I enjoyed his class because he always had something interesting to share to the class. He doesn't lecture half the time and usually he would make you discuss topics with others to learn (I like that system).

if english is not your strong point, not recommended for taking his class. He's a picky grader. He's ok overall, but if he does not favor you then GOOD LUCK in his class.

Very funny professor, but has a weird sense of humor. He is a fair grader and leaves helpful comments on your essays. Attend every class, do all the work, and you'll get at least a B. Great professor, would take again!!

Read the articles before class, there's a quiz every day. easy though. Really interesting fellow...depends on your brand of humor whether or not he makes you laugh. personally, i think he's pretty funny. kinda quirky, in a good way. i really learned lot--very insightful. you HAVE to ask questions though, if you're confused.

he is not very clear. he thinks he is funny but most of the time ppl just laugh at him. he is generally a good teacher but he tells u to be specific and then when u ask questions he is very unclear about what he wants and not very helpful. in the end i did well cuz i scored well on the essays, but there is a quiz everyday u have to do the reading f

It's really hard to get an A in his class. You must read for his quizzes. I thought I would surely get at least a B+ in his class b/c I scored high on his essays and did the quizzes, but I ended up with a B. He did warn everyone that it's hard to get an A in his class. Otherwise, it's pretty much straight-forward if you do the work.

Class incorporated a lot of philosophy and covered a bunch of articles written by philosophers. Each week, a 1 page summary had to be written of the article read. Class was split into groups, and each group would have to lead a discussion with a portion of the class. Fairly easy. He often talks about famous people he says he knows.

Awesome teacher. Mr. Selinske always had an interesting fact to share with the class about every artcile we read. His classes are easy, you get out 15-30 minutes almost every day. There are about 5 in class essays, 2 out of class essays, 1 re-write, and 1 research paper, which is only a thousand words. He is a great teacher and recommend his class.

This was the best english teacher I have ever had. I loved this class and plan to have him again for 1B. Typically there is a 1 question quiz every class on the reading, but they are always very easy and don't really always require you to have read. Mostly in-class essays, only 2 to do at home. One thesis paper at the end, but pretty short and easy
