Best professor I've ever had. If you're a film student, you will grow to love and appreciate this craft so much more. He cares about the student's success but also challenges you to think and be better.

wow. took his course just to familiarize myself with film history. came away wiser than i've ever been with a real understanding of international cinema and why i want to be in this field. i plan on taking every course i can with him. not easy, mind you. he makes you go far beyond coursework in critical thinking. respects his students seriously.

Probably the best professor I've ever had and so far the best professor I've at this University. He's very supportive of students and wants everyone in his class to do well but he doesn't lower his expectation to let you slide by. His lectures are very informative but also relaxed; you don't have to scribble down tons of notes or memorize volumes.

Amazing Professor! Took this class as for humanities credit and I don't regret it! The lectures are long but interesting, and you can learn a lot from this class. He mostly assigns papers from lecture so pay attention. If you need clarification on assignments, he gets back to you via email very quickly. Very friendly

I do not like this teacher at all. The class that I have with him is co-taught an continuously talks over the other teacher and cuts him off. If the other teacher tries to make his point, VD raises his voice until he beats the other teacher down. He is absolutely unbearable and if your take on a film differs from his, you're wrong.

He is practically a genius. Writing a paper for him is a bit intimidating due to his inspirational and highly intellectual lectures and language overall. He facilitates VERY productive classroom discussions and really makes you think outside the box. Excellent professor.

I don't understand why everyone seems to like him so much. This guy has such an annoying air of pretentiousness about him. He talks for 2 hours straight, barely letting the other prof get a word in. He doesn't give out the prompts for the papers until a week before they're due, which isn't nearly enough time in my opinion. I would not recommend him

A German and Austrian (!) culture course taught bilingually (several texts, films, all extra work for the prof) to bring in not just the German students. Not only did I see and learn things I never expected, Dassanowsky made it now a part of my life. Amazing. This is what college should be about.

Amazing professor. Took this as a filler class, but it blew my mind all that I really learned by him. His partner in crime not so much, but he is fantastic. Would highly recommend his class(s). Was a Sat. class, but could hear him lecture the whole time he is so informed and has such passion. Knows what he is talking about! No textbook!
