I was fortunate enough to be accepted into Dr. Wayghs Honors English class decades ago. The tome he handed out on corrections and his implementation thereof revolutionized my writing style. When I advise new writers, when I edit a book, when I translate a work: I still think of Dr. Waugh every time. I cant thank him enough.

He is a really old professor, but knows his stuff. He is really into classics and loves to talk about them. He is an okay professor. It's fine if you get him, but it won't be the most fun class you will take.

I would jump on a grenade for Bob Waugh. He taught me more in one semester than most of my other professors COMBINED could ever have. Simply put, he taught us how to read poetry, explicate poetry, and write something meaningful about poetry. It was time to put up or shut up, and for those of us who put up, Waugh's class was life-changing!

Nice guy who doesn't mean any harm, but his teaching tactics are outdated. Drones for the whole class period without relevant ties to the work. His directions are unclear, and resulted in the lowest grade I've ever had in college. I'm a hard worker and A-student English major, and I got a higher grade in a Neuro class than his 200 level lit class.

Proseminar - supposed to be scary and hard - was demanding but GREAT! One of the best graduate classes and crazy fun teachers I've ever had.

The class is pretty interesting, lots of discussion. I enjoyed the class but if you want good grades in his Creative Writing class, you have to write in the style he likes. He is a very strict grader, but a good man.

Although very much a product of the old school (he studied under Harry Levin at Hah-vaad), Waugh is always amenable to other approaches; moreover, his tendency to lecture or drone on "monotonously" belies the lack of academic curiosity endemic at NP. If you value your tuition, if you value literature, take a class with Waugh before it's too late.

When it comes to incomprehensible genius, Thomas Pynchon is the new James Joyce; who better to teach his epic novels than Dr. Waugh? The man is smarter than you. He's smarter than everyone. You will realize it very quickly. You will learn a lot. You will hear him talk about****, money, and the Word. He will talk a lot. You will be changed.

Waugh is hard! Not a discussion class. He lectures. He has a nice voice but sometimes you want to fall asleep.Pop quizzes are NOT easy--random quotes. A MUST to take good notes. Grades hard on the one paper.Get to know him because if he remembers your name, you will get noticed! Must be willing to work, not an easy survey course. He's nice though :)

I had him for Sci-Fi. His class is an acquired taste. He's not very engaging, but he's extremely smart and will make the texts come alive if you come into the class with an ability to think on more complex levels. I like his class, but he is not for everyone, though, so think it over before you sign up for it.

Really smart, nice guy, but his class was 70 minutes of pure droning. So BORING! Don't take him unless you want to be bored out of your mind three times a week.

He was a nice old guy... Personally I didn't dislike him, I just thought he demanded too much reading, which made it impossible to keep up with respect to other classes. I wouldn't take him again... Despite the fact he is nice. If you like reading ALOT... Take a course with him! But I warn you... The quote quiz questions are annoying as hell!

Waugh is the cool grandpa you wish you had. His class is really thought provoking and his papers are fun. He is a master wordsmith and listening to him talk is a fascinating experience. Watch out for those pop "write this in 15 minutes and then read it outloud to the class" days.Other thanthat, I LOVED this class, and the eccentricly awesome Waugh

(Gen. Honors English 1) Professor Waugh is, as some have said, kind of close-minded. He has his knowledge, and he isn't afraid you let you know it! He has such a wealth of facts in his head, unfortunately, not many pertain to the MEANING of the books. But he CAN tell you where the authors were born, how many lovers they had, and when they died.

Nice professor. Midterm and final are relatively hard- identification of qutations and essays. Tough grader on essays, but worth it and will make you a better writer. Quotes aren't too hard to identify, but need to identify 20 in 30 mins. 3pg paper also, but not too difficult. Will learn a lot though. Definetly worth it.

If you like a guy that talk about absolutely nothing that has any relevance to the class, and people that go off on ridiculous tangents, then this is the class for you! No seriously, the most boring class I have ever taken in my entire life...I had no idea what he was saying in the beginning of the semester and now that it's over I still have no clue!

who would guess this guy had a phd from harvard? not me. i dont reccomend taking this class unless you can memorize completely random quotes for the midterm and final. In fact, don't take it unless you can memorize basically all of the pieces read and you can learn everything on your own.

Just being in waugh's presence makes one smarter. He is a force of nature. He is a benevolent wizard sent to the earth by the ainur. His class may require a little work but it is worth it in the end!
