Fun class. Good energy spread throughout the term. Always finds strengths within your work and suggests changes. The criticism feels like he wants to help you to improve rather than make you feel like your work is useless. 51

Comment:

Robert is a funny, interesting and lovable guy. He gives honest feedback and respects students and their opinions. There are not many painting classes (about 7) so i think it's hard to see his full teaching potential. I enjoyed the class and would like to continue with painting, and take more classes from him.

He's a little hard to get used to. If you expect him to just come up with ideas for fixing your work you'll be disappointed, but if you ask him directed questions so he what you're trying to do, he's great.

Good guy, lousy teacher. I worked my tail off in his painting class while others simply put 3 strokes on a canvase - which we had 4 weeks to work on. Youds and Meigs drove me out of Uvic - I am going to Carr next year.

Took his class back in the early 90's. He is overall a good guy, probably the best you are going to get at the VIS ARTS dept. He has modernist tendancies. So if you like Bauhaus, he's your man.There's not many around. He is the remainder of the good profs of the department that retired.They were really good guys until Meigs and Alexander got there.

Such a kool dude! Really enjoyed talking with him & appreciated him as a person- he's got a good sense of humour! Kind, fashionable & such a gentleman. He was often open to new ideas. He showed us TONS of slies in class tho, which was kinda boring sometimes. And I didn't really feel that he was actually teaching us a lot- is it just me?

Robert is smart, (though his lectures are REALLY boring), and I enjoy him as a person. However, his class has totally turned me off painting,(perhaps partially due to certain students). Robert has trouble communicating what he's really looking for.
