As a Poli Sci major I took all of his classes. These classes were challenging, as there were assignments almost every night, reading/writing papers, building websites, learning SAS, 100 page thesis ect. Skim the readings, find the textbooks pdf online instead of buying, try and show some effort and follow up with him so the interest shows.

This is a difficult class but you are sure to learn something. As long as you try, show an interest and talk to him personally you should be fine. Like the person before said, be prepared to do some serious work or drop the class. I recommend sticking around though. He asks you to buy about 5 books. You may use about 3 of them.
