Way too serious to just be a basic oral 101 course. I don't complain, he is just alot. I passed with a B, but on my final speech, he docked me for having "going off topic/having 1 too many main points" for an Informative speech! Never been penalized for giving TOO MUCH. Too particular for such a basic class. Cares abt the outline more than speech.

Easy enough. If you do your speeches and you follow his outline handouts in class, you'll be just fine. Just make some effort and he will recognize it as good, and will give you a good grade. Midterm test and final quiz are hard, but not impossible. Most of the grade is put on the speeches anyhow, so again, do ok in those and you'll do ok overall.

Dr. O'toole is amazing. He answers your email questions quickly. Follow his instructions for the speeches and you will do good. He is very funny and keeps your interest. One of my most enjoyable class yet. So sorry he might be retiring.

Doc is a very nice guy and makes speaking in front of the class very comforting. as long as you take notes and pay attention to what he's asking of you for the speeches you'll do fine. tests are a difficult in my opinion. you must really know the material to pass

Doc was an awesome professor. Not a lot is different than other people's comments. Make sure you take thorough notes and follow them exactly when giving a speech. Participation in this class is integral to the experience.

Doc was great. I don't know why everyone said it was impossible to get an A- I got an A on almost every speech! Just LISTEN AND FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!! He makes strict rules but if you follow them the class is an easy GPA booster. And you will learn a lot! One of the best professors I've had.

O'Toole was a great teacher, I definitely learned a lot when taking his class. That being said he is VERY strict with attendance, I was late to a few classes on speech day, so he won't allow you in, and tyou are absent that day, so I ended up with a B in his class, when I should have gotten an A. All in all great classs to take

Nothing much changed in his teaching style as previously written comments about him a lot of you really said it all, the only new change is that Doc gives 6 days of class to miss now. I followed the speech rule and I have an A for all.(And I am extremely shy.)I haven't noticed any favoritism, I worked hard to get my grade, his guidelines are clear.

The most important thing any student needs to do to pass with this proffesor is to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Mr. O'toole makes his expectations crystal clear- and he expects them to be followed precisely! Also its not possible to pass this class if you miss 4 classes. He will ask you to drop it! Great man - loved his class!

I absolutely dreaded taking this class, but Doc made it much easier than I expected it to be. I'm extremely shy, and have high performance anxiety. I had no experience in public speaking at all before I took this class. I got an A, so he does grade fairly. This just isn't a class where you get a good grade for doing nothing.

I really liked Dr. O'Toole. I don't think he has favorites as much as he gravitates to those who are very responcive and give feedback. I shook like a leaf while giving speeches, and would often speed talk. I got a good grade because I gave it a lot of effort. You have to work for your grade, and will become a better speaker because of it.

O'Toole is a good teacher, but he is overbearing sometimes and very hard to please. I like the guy, he knows his stuff, and he wants to see people succeed. Unfortunately, he is too strict and it did seem he played favorites a little bit. Nearly impossible to get an A unless you do speeches exactly how he wants them, little room for creativity.

Doc is the best teacher i have had so far. Yes he does grade hard but its because he is so clear on what he is asking for that if you don't deliver those things it pretty much means you were not listening to him. I did not have any p.speaking expirence i was scared out of my mind to do so and i managed to get A's and B's. and im not a great student

picked his favorites and acted like we all had experience in public speaking and had no other classes. it took days to his speeches and he critiqued everything. your speech had to be amazing to get an A. very hard on grading and it when it comes to arguing your grade he wants none of it.

Otoole is a great teacher, but he grades extremely hard. Makes the class interesting though. I just think that he is a little tough on the grading, giving that it is a required course and for many that have no experience in writing and giving speeches.

Very nice guy, makes what could be a dull subject a lot of fun, and offers constructive criticism. The review that said he "tears your speech to shreds" is just bitter, I imagine. SOUTH OF THE BORDER!
